  1. C drive partition

I recently bought a new laptop, which has windows 10 home single language inbuilt. It has only C drive and no other partitions at the time of purchase. Now I want to make C into more partitions, But it is not possible to split the C drive. I have tried so many times by Disk Management> Shrink volume ...... several times. But it is showing the message "you cant shrink volume beyond the point". It is giving 18GB of partition only.

I have tried with 3rd party drive partition tools also. But I could not succeed with those tools also. Even in those tools also all the options are in hidden mode (not clickable).

I have consulted a few people, But there is no use to me. How to get solution?

Some body said that you have to reinstall the OS . But I do not have Backup of my OS. And I am not aware of Backup and Re installation. And one of the retailer tried to make recovery drive with 16GB pen-drive, he might not be able to do that also.I am not bothering about my personal data , and there is no problem even is lost. But my worry is about OS .

Now I tried take backup using windows media creation tool. And I got the setup files up to 11GB. But I don't know the process how to re install OS. Is there any problem to system's default applications(not installed by me) like notepad, word pad, etc.. By formatting and re installation of OS ? (Because C drive has up to 45 GB data, but I made back up of 11GB only). Can I have a chance to get my OS back without having any backup copy (I have a product key also. I got this in my command prompt by using few commands. Is that original license key?)

And I am getting fear to do all these OS level operations. Please give me a solutions. I have asked several doubts. kindly provide me solutions to all questions with out hesitation please.

    Thanking you!!!

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

    C drive partition

    Unallocated Space to C Drive

    Hi Travis,

It appears that a disk partition was created but was never assigned its allocation. Assuming there are no files stored in the unallocated partition, perform these steps to combine it with your C: drive:

    • In Disk Management, right-click on (CC drive partition :) which appears next to the
      Unallocated partition.
    • Select Extend.

Let us know if you're able to combine the spaces after following the steps above.

    Regards.
