Windows 10: C/Users/*name* change

    I got this new W10 computer and the guy that set it up for me put in 'owner' as the default name, it's what shows up when booting. If I change the name to something that I would rather have, does it affect all the things under the /User/owner/.... folders, so that some programs that store things in the /Roaming/... folders, does that mess all those programs up so they can't then find what they need? Or is there some instructions on how to change this name and retain all the app settings? If you get my drift?

    This thing has been a nightmare. If I'd known it was this much work, I'd have gone to Linux.

    How to change User name on Windows 10

    Hi Davit,

    I will certainly help you in changing the User name on Windows 10.

    I suggest you to follow the steps below to change the User name:

    • Press Windows logo + R keys to open the run command, type
      netplwiz       and click on Ok.
    • On the Users tab, click on Properties to change the user name and then click on

    Change user name on c drive to match administrator name.


    I just bought a new laptop as the hard drive on my old one died. It had two users, “John” and “Jane”. The computer store where I bought the new laptop named it John, but I want it to be Jane. I changed the administrator name to Jane and that works, however when I go to c /users it still list John: for example c/users/John and I want to change that to c/users/Jane. I have not been able to figure out how to change the user name to agree with the user name on the c drive. Could someone please explain how you do that on windows 10? Thank you.
