    CAL Licensing, Windows 10 Enterprise accessing a Windows Server 2019 on LAN


    I intend on having two Windows Server 2019 systems in my organisation, which would be accessed by 16 laptops running Windows 10 Enterprise. The servers would be running WSUS, DHCP and DNS services, and would be accessed only over a LAN. I also want to have 12 Linux systems who would receive IP addresses from the DHCP services, again, over a LAN.
    Do I need to purchase CALs in this scenario?

    To access Win Server 2016 can I use Win Server 2019 CAL license ?

    Windows Server 2019 RDS CAL for Windows Server 2016

    I recently purchased Windows Server RDS CAL from Microsoft Online site.

    When I purchased it I didn't know that it was for Windows Server 2019 and I have Windows Server 2016.

    When I tried to install Windows RDS CAL for 2019 into Windows Server 2016 it shows the license is not recognized and couldn't install.

    My questions are:

    1. Can't Windows RDS CAL for 2019 be installed in Windows Server 2016?

    2. Is there any way to replace RDS CAL from 2019 to 2016 ver?

    3. Can I get a refund for this?

    • Office 2019 apps will be supported on:
      • Any supported Windows 10 SAC release
      • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2018
      • The next LTSC release of Windows Server
    • The Office 2019 client apps will be released with Click-to-Run installation technology only. We will not provide MSI as a deployment methodology for Office 2019 clients. We will continue to provide MSI for Office Server products.
