    File Explorer not showing thumbnails

    Brink,

    Many thanks for you reply. I have done all the steps you suggested, but no change,

    When I open a folder containing photos, some open correctly but the vast majority open with thumbnails, but they very quickly get overwritten and you can not longer see the thumbnails.

    Are there any more suggestions?

    Folder Thumbnail and Desktop.ini Issues

    Hello. The issue I wish to address is the inconsistency of my folder picture thumbnails among my collection of folders in Windows 8.1.

    For a basic recap, I apply an image within a folder by doing the following:

    "Right Click on Folder -> Properties -> Customize -> Choose File -> (select image within folder) -> Apply"

    This sequence results in a new thumbnail for my folder along with a newly created "Desktop.ini" with the following layout:

    [ViewState]

    Mode=

    Vid=

    FolderType=Generic

    Logo=(image path)

    And while this works for a few folders, the reason I bring this up is because of what is happening when applying these thumbnails to many folders.
    On my external hard drive, I have a collection of pictures separated into hundreds of folders that I wish to apply these thumbnails to.
    But, after applying about 30 to 40 (haven't counted) pictures to be folder thumbnails, I can guarantee that one of the following three issues arises whenever I reconnect my hard drive:

    1. One of the folders that has yet to apply a picture as its thumbnail gets the same thumbnail as a folder that has already been given a thumbnail before the hard drive was extracted.
      When I go into this folder with the new thumbnail, it gets a "Desktop.ini" without a logo.
    2. A folder already with its own thumbnail (and Desktop.ini) gets the thumbnail of another folder, despite that the logo of this one's Desktop.ini wasn't altered.
    3. Some folders previously given thumbnails (and generated a Desktop.ini previously) will be shown with a default folder thumbnail, despite the fact that the Desktop.ini in the folder still exists and is unaltered.

    This issue has persisted for months, and I have been unable to find an ideal solution.
    I restored the default folder pictures and reattempted using the same images, and restored the defaults of (all) folder options, but nothing worked.

    Does anybody know a method of fixing this folder picture/thumbnail issue?

    Thank you for your time.
