Windows 10: Can I re-use the same key on the same computer when reinstalling Windows 10?

Hello.


I got my key as a gift ~2 years ago Home edition. I need to downgrade my Windows 10 build to the very old one. I know what I'm doing and I don't have a system restore point because I didn't even have this build installed.


So, can I use the same key on the same PC to activate my system again after reinstalling?

Hi zanem0ne, you can reinstall Windows 10 at any time, you will not need a product key, activation will be automatic and it will not cost you anything !

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will
have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

Will I need to reinstall windows with the same chipset?

as long as the cpu is the same if you reset bios and uninstall the drivers then windows wont know the difference
