Windows 10: Can I recover an accidentally closed unsaved and untitled Word file?

I'm hoping techies can help me.

I opened a blank Word page in the Document Recovery Automatic Save area, where I have several documents I am working on. My Word program is Office 2007 and I'm using Windows 10.


I had not titled the document yet but typed it for a good 4 hours. I retrieved some a picture off of another open file there, and pasted it into my document. Then, I decided I did not need that Word file that originally had the picture anymore and attempted to close and not save it. As always, when I hit to close it, up popped the Are you sure you close without saving it? I said Yes, and it closed. All of a sudden I realized it closed my 4 hour document, not the file I wanted to get rid of. I need help!!


I have Carbonite and immediately paused it. It had just backed up my computer 10 min earlier. I spent a considerable amount of time searching my computer myself, and also dealing with Carbonite support who said that since I had not originally saved the file, it never got to the hard drive so it wasn't saved by Carbonite.


Can anyone help me locate it? I looked in my recycle bin but there are no files there at all. Certainly there must be some evidence of this file I can recover, especially since I have the computer set to save files every 10 min?

Recover 'Unsaved' Document Folder

How can I navigate to my Recover Unsaved Documents folder in Word 2007. I closed my document last night before saving as I see that there is a folder that I save too every 10 minutes but can't navigate to it. THERE clearly IS a method and is available
for Word 2010, but how can I navigate if I still have 2007. When I foolow the steps listed on Support/Microsoft - the folder it navigates to is the Start Up Folder?

HELP. I'm assuming it's a lost cause, but maybe there's a glimmer of hope somehow, somewhere?

We would suggest you follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

1. Open word application and click the File tab.
   
2. Click on Info > Manage Document >
   Recover Unsaved Documents.
   
3. A list of unsaved files are shown.
   
4. Look for the file try opening and saving it.

How can I recover files lost on automatic Restart

We'd like to elaborate on the information provided by Gil deG
about an option to recover your Word document. There is an option for you to check the unsaved file that you have lost. If you are using Office 2013 or later version, follow the steps below:

• Open Word app and click on File menu.
• Click Info and Manage Versions then click
  Recover Unsaved Documents.
• From there, you can look for the unsaved files.
