    I also wouldn't recommend mixing brands of RAM. RAM is sold in kits for a reason, they're optimised to work together. If you want 8GB RAM it would be best to buy a new 8GB kit.

    That method that I described is just my thought as how it should be. It has not been officially said by MS. You can take the wait and see approach to be sure of having a good result.

    You cannot change the bit depth with an upgrade install - if... you can download the x64 ISO (and I agree you should be able to do that based on the upgrade path matrix I've seen), then only a clean install will change the bit depth.

    Maybe we're all saying the same thing in different ways. I suggested biting the bullet now and updating the Win8.1 to 64-bit now to avoid any possible issues down the road (i.e. WU automatically updates Win8.1 to Win10 - which would be the same bit depth as the current install). If that happened, you would have to go through the download ISO and clean install to get to to x64 anyway.

    Bill Of course you are correct you cannot upgrade a x86 install with a x64 ISO. So at some point in this op's scenario he must start from scratch. All my thoughts always revolve around clean install is the only way to go. *Smile
