    Can I transfer my Windows 10 Pro license to a different computer?


    It seems like this may have been answered numerous times, but I cannot determine the answer.


    I bought a laptop (L1) that came with Windows 10 Home installed.

    I purchased the Win 10 Pro upgrade ($99) from the Microsoft store.

    L1 was not powerful enough for my needs.

    I purchased a new laptop (L2)

    I reformatted and restored L1 to factory condition. I did not apply the Win 10 Pro upgrade.

    I wish to use the previously purchased Win 10 Pro upgrade on L2.


    IS THIS POSSIBLE AND IF SO, HOW DO I DO IT?

    How do I transfer a Windows 10 Pro license from one computer to another?

    The preinstalled Windows 10 Pro license on the Surface Pro 3 is not transferable. It is an OEM license.

    Transfer Windows 10 Pro Licence to a different computer.

    Is the Windows 10 Pro a full retail license or was it upgraded from a retail or OEM Windows 7 or Windows 8 license?

    If its retail, just use the Windows 10 Pro to upgrade the new machine, then reactivate by chat support if necessary:


    If you upgraded from a retail Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, you will need to do the following:

    Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro using the following default product key:

    VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

    Review instructions how to perform an Easy Upgrade using the default key:

    After upgrading, proceed to enter the Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Windows 8 Pro product key.

    Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Change the product key then enter the new product key then click Next to Activate
