Windows 10: Can I upgrade from an unactivated windows with my windows upgrade key?

Hello,I was wondering if I am able to upgrade from Windows Xp on my computer to Windows Vista. The Windows Xp is not activated, but I have an upgrade key for Windows Vista. Am I allowed to use the upgrade key to upgrade my unactivated Windows Xp to Windows Vista? Note: These are not my main Operating Systems, I’m using these for an old retro gaming computer.

Microsoft cracked down on the upgrade requirements you now need a windows 7 key OEM or Retail but the code its self needs to be one they listed in there upgrades system, So old keys wont work.

There are two upgrades for Windows8. The $40 offer which DOES not require a key for prior version of Windows and then there is the $14.99 version for recently new purchasers of a Win7 box WHICH requires in step 2 to enter your Windows7 key.

Use the ISO to upgrade your current installation; this is necessary to validate your current Windows license key. Then you have the option to wipe your drive and do a fresh install from the ISO.
