Windows 10: Can I use an external HD to create an Win10 install drive for a newly built PC with No OS?

Can I use an external HD to create an Win10 install drive for a newly built PC with No OS?


I recently built a new PC for gaming and every site i find tells me i can only install windows 10 with a flash drive with t least 8gb, I don't hve one handy and was wondering if i can use an external hard drive instead of the flash drive?

• Just to confirm, the device that is not working properly is a external DVD optical drive?
• Were there any recent changes or updates installed on your computer?
• Have you tried to plug the external drive to a different port on your computer?

As a initial recommendation, we suggest that your run the built in troubleshooter in Windows 10. Kindly refer to the steps below:

• Type “Troubleshooting” in the Search bar and press Enter.
• Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
• This will display the list of troubleshooters which are built-in in the computer. You can click on
  Hardware and Devices from the list and you can run the troubleshooter.

External HD Connection Problem

I have attached an external HD to my computer running Windows 10 and it will not show up in my drive list. The properties shows it as Seagate.ink - what is an ink file and any suggestions as to how I can get it to work?
