Windows 10: Can I use VS Code to code in C ?

I was wondering if I could use VS Code to program C projects? I don't know much about the language and I thought that I might try to learn a little. I did some research and found a way to compile C code using MSbuild in VS Code. But I was wondering If I could use VS Code to write c projects like you can use it for python projects. With python VS Code opens the python shell and you right click on a file and click run to run your file and get output and stuff. Does it work like that with C? Can I click a run command to run my code, or do I have to use a build task to compile it every time? Can I get output and error info in VS Code from my project? I don't want to install a 50-60 GB program just for something that I might not even use much.

That is what I was figuring. C or Assembly. I really like coding in C, so far more then C++.

c++ code help

I used to do a lot in C/C++, but since I've been doing a lot of Database stuff, C# seems to a good fit. I was dabbling in F#, but can't find a real need for it.
Maybe it's time to dig back in so I can be of more help here. Seems a lot of people, especially in school, need C++ assistance.
