Windows 10: Can i use windows on a chromebook?

More options the better... anything is possible! *Cool

 

I bought one of those 32 bit Windows machines, and the thing wouldn't update to the RTM version available then; not enough memory, and although I added a 32 GB SD, it still wouldn't update. So, it went back to Office Depot.

The replacement did the same thing, so that was the end of 32 GB machines for me.

Edit: I just re-read and I don't think you meant "32GB memory"? I'm really confused.

 

I think it's the usual confusion between storage and memory. Many of these netbook type devices shipped with a small solid-state drive built-in. 32 GB was a common capacity.

 

Sorry, how about 32GB eMMC storage and 2GB memory. Checked today and of that 32GB only 12GB is used and 18GB Free! Have not had any update problems with it, since it originally was W8.1 and bought it from the MS Store. YMMV

 

Hey all i keep getting message on the chromebook when i connect a 1tb internal hard drive in an enclosure into the usb port of my chromebook



whoa there be careful chromebook. I get this message over and over. Does this mean my internal hard drive connected to the enclosure is corrupted or not? I just shut down my laptop. But could hear the internal hard drive is moving etc.



How do i access my internal hard drive in enclosure on the chromebook. Can someone tell me how to solve this issue?

ok it took many hours to scan the hard drive on my windows 7 computeand it showed over 200 million clusters processed. The thing is it said there are no errors. When i plug it into my desktop windows 7, it shows

928gb free of 931gb


Thus it looks like it is fine on the desktop windows 7


When i connect it to my chromebook, there is the blue light which show it works, but then it immediately is no more light and now it had that same notification. Thus it does not recognize the drive and enclosure. I used an old usb stick and connected it to the chromebook. It recognizes it.


So can someone explain why it seem to work on the desktop computer but doesn't recognize on the chromebook?

 

I just plugged it into my desktop windows 7 computer and it shows it as the I drive etc. But when i connect it to chromebook, it does recognize it for a bit but then immediately doesn't recognize it anymore... there is no blue light. And it has that whoa message.


Does anyone have a clue why it does this then? It can't be the usb port because i used a usb flash drive and connected it to chromebook and it recognizes. And it does show the hard drive with the 928gb free of 931b on the desktop.

 

My guess is that it's possible the drive is too large for Chrome OS to recognize. Second guess is that the files on the drive aren't compatible with Chrome OS.

Having said that, I know nothing about Chrome. *Sad

 

Those netbooks came in handy when traveling and use at work. Carrying my netbook at less than 3 lbs as opposed to company laptop at 5+ lbs in tool bag.

 

It may be some other type of compatibility. Per this link, external hard drives are supported, both FAT32 and NTFS. You may need to format the drive under Chrome OS.

I don't see anything about external drives on that list. Looked at wrong place!!!!
If it is anything like Apple, you have to do some research because it does it's own thing.

 

They are listed under storage, and as compatible. There are no listed capacity limits, though.

If you pick up the drive and put it to your ear you'll hear a little beep-beep-beep sound. That means it doesn't have enough power.

Either plug in the second (power) USB cable or if it doesn't have such a hole, buy a new housing that has two holes. And then plug them both in.

 

Hi there. I just plugged in a seagate external hard drive into the usb port in my chromebook. It recognizes it and has no issues. Thus this has nothing to do with the usb port on my chromebook.

When i plugged in the internal hard drive enclosure into it before this, it did recognize it for a second as it showed up with the name database i believe.

Then i did this again and you could see when you open files up, it shows the name of the hard drive as datapart. It would keep showing up and disappearing after few seconds




Then on the bottom right corner, it would have the same message over and over again in like 30 plus notificaitons
