I'm going to bet more than one of your storage devices was once a disk you could boot from. Some installation or BIOS glitch has things confused. Of course sdowney717's comment could also be valid however you didn't mention adding a disk, I think your words were all of a sudden it wouldn't boot with other disks attached. You could have a disk error but you checked that I think.

So let's start with basics. Could you attach all your disks that are normally attached and could you produce and post a screen shot.

Could you also include a short description of what each disk is using the disk numbers in the lower portion of the screen shot. For a quick test, boot with just your primary boot disk connected and time it.

Thanks so much....turns out all my Sata HDD's were setup in Win 7....the new SSD used for Win 10 setup/install was the only Win 10 minted drive....pretty sure all drives in case (including problem Hitachi drive) were setup and/or formatted...etc...in 7.....but only Hitachi drive has issues...the Western Digital and Maxtor drives are fine

Weird thing is all these problems just recently appeared...couple weeks ago....all was well previously...I think tho there was at least one Windows update prior to these issues starting...have seen some post blaming the last or recent upgrades in 10 for these similar problems.

I recently was able to wipe and reformat the 'Win 7 Hitachi-2 Old Storage' drive which was one of the culprits causing the freezing/sloooow starts and now it's fine. Will copy the other HDD's to my external USB drive and reformat the others as you suggest.

Thank you (and all) very much....TiminAz

  3. Seems like a windows bug to me. My 3tb problem drive was also Hitachi, but they are excellent drives. Win10 must not like something about the partitioning or formatting and it causes it go into hysterics.

After I got it working it has been great.
