Can not declare IE 11 as default program

I have tried few things with other browsers and the registry but nothing helps to keep IE11 as the default program to open URL from Outlook 10.

I too have tried everything. We say that Microsoft did it on purpose to kill IE11. But with Edge and its impossibility (shortcut, favorites etc.), Microsoft goes straight to a new failure just like windows 8 (too modern).

I am using Office 2003 on this laptop because I ran out of Office 2010 licenses. When I click on a link in Outlook 2003, I get my homepage in IE11. Links work in every other app. I do not get a window asking me what program to use. When I set the default program as IE11, I did make sure that all of the file types were IE11. I think that is the link directly under Set This program as default. It is Choose defaults for the program.

I made FireFox the default browser until I can get this fixed.

I hope they come up with a solution soon.

I'm not sure if FireFox can sync favorites with OneDrive, but it DOES sync bookmarks, favorites, etc. with a (free) FireFox account. I use Apple's iCloud to sync favorites, bookmarks, photos, etc. It does a great job. It's especially useful if you have an iPhone or iPad as well as Windows devices.

I just tried firefox and import favorites from IE11.
It does not work because the directory favorites IE 11 has been moved to that of onedrive. Firefox gets to import the subdirectories but empty

Not the most elegant solution, but what I would probably do is copy all your bookmarks from OneDrive to the appropriate folder on your hard drive. (It would likely be "c:\users\pmai\Favorites.")

FireFox has some import/export options as well, but I haven't learned about them yet.

    Good evening everybody,
I stop my investigations because too much time wasted for nothing.
So in outlook 2010 I ask him to launch Edge systematically and here he does it well.
Once in Edge when I need to save a link or go to see my favorites, so I click on the three dots (...) located at the top right. Then I asked him to run IE11.
And this is all I found better.
But again Microsoft is bad because when it launches a novelty he breaks something next.
I think Edge will join his older brother Windows 8 in the thinking of lamdas users. They all go again use Firefox or Chrome instead of Edge!
Anyway thank you all for your lost time looking for me.
Good luck and thank you again. *Wink

Sorta. If you choose any browser but IE, hyperlinks in Outlook 2010 will work fine. If you choose IE, hyperlinks in Outlook 2010 will always get you this window.

And "Always use this app" doesn't work...at least not the 30 times I've tried it.

I don't use Outlook, but any other hyperlinks I click always open in ie if I choose it as my default browser. Perhaps I am just not familar with your particular problem. I set ie as default just to see, but didn't have your problem.

According to other posters here, it's an Outlook 2010 deal. I've been all through the registry in Office 14 on a Win 7 machine versus Office 14 on a Win 10. I don't see anything there.

    @essenbe,
The problem affects Outlook 2010 as I had reported from the beginning.
Is 2010 outlook which does not store the selection IE.
If you do not have Outlook 2010 so there is no problem for you.

I have exactly the same problem on 2 machines using Outlook 2007. It's driving me nuts!
