Can Not Install W10 in UEFI Mode

Just to start, you are using the 64 bit version of the DVD?

It is hard to give definite descriptions as to how some UEFI/Secure Boot options work. Even after you have a board and get them figured out you may still see a Bios update which can change there interactions.

I like to get to the Boot Device Menu by tapping the Del or F2 key very quickly during boot which puts me into the Bios setup. From there you can open the Boot Device Menu and see if anything shows as UEFI or is listed under a UEFI heading.

The ASUS Bios will usually have the ability to take a picture of a certain page and copy it to a flash drive or some other available storage. If you have questions about any settings it might be helpful.

If you get to the install part, after designating where you want to install, check how many partitions will be created. If it is only 2 and not 4 then it will install as Legacy which means it is not booted as UEFI.

    That is not true.

For as long as only CSM is enabled (edit: pure CSM mode) Windows will install in Legacy BIOS mode.

You do not need to disable CSM if you have ASUS motherboard.

CSM (Compatibility Support Module) > Launch CSM
    - [Auto]: The system automatically detects the bootable devices and the add-on devices.
    - [Enabled]: For better compatibility, enable the CSM to fully support the non-UEFI driver add-on devices or the Windows UEFI mode.
    - [Disabled]: Disable the CSM to fully support the Windows Security Update and Security Boot.

    Secure Boot > OS Type
    - [Windows UEFI Mode]: Execute the Microsoft Secure Boot check. Only select this option when booting on Windows UEFI mode or other Microsoft Secure Boot compliant OS.
    - [Other OS]: Get the optimized function when booting on Windows non-UEFI mode, Windows Vista/XP, or other Microsoft Secure Boot non-compliant OS.

Yes. Your DVD disc might be damaged.

  3. Well, to let everyone know, disabling CSM does not work. By doing that, you have nowhere to install W10. It turns off all boot drives.
hotkey, the default Asus settings you described are what my board is set to.
If my W10 DVD may be damaged, would I be able to return it from where I bought it?
I`ll try a flash drive install of W10 and see if it will do a UEFI install.

Saltgrass, yes, I`m using a 64 bit version W10 DVD. The problem is when I open the Boot Device Menu. Nothing shows as UEFI or is listed under a UEFI heading.

I posted earlier that as I was looking around the UEFI BIOS and I went to the Secure Erase Menu and saw that the status of the SSD is frozen. Is the SSD the problem now? I did`nt do a secure erase. I did do a W10 re-install about 3 times now.

I am not really sure what to mention. I agree with leaving Secure Boot enabled and disabling the CSM although the Auto setting should adjust to a UEFI media.

In the EZ Bios mode it shows the boot devices along the right side and gives you the Boot Device (F8) selection option. Those two lists may not be the same.

Make sure and have the DVD media inserted prior to booting the system. If you install it later it may not be picked up.

Check your User's manual page 3/47 for info on the Secure Erase Frozen status. Appears to be normal for an SSD.

If you were to need it, ASUS has a forum for their more expensive boards.

  5. I figured out why I could not do a UEFI Windows install. This probably should go into the hall of shame for the biggest blunder of all time!!! *Redface*Shock*Banghead
I did`nt install the DVD before going into the UEFI BIOS!
I was beating myself up looking all over for UEFI before I put the DVD in.

  6. Wow.

If you can. Just do a clean install with a bootable usb using Rufus or Media Creation Tool. It takes all the pain and guess work away as long as you made sure your BIOS would boot to a USB.
