  1. Cannot access my Seagate Portable 1TB Hard Drive after KB5045935 & KB5046633 updates.

Not sure if the issue is caused by these updates, KB5045935 & KB5046633 on 11/12/2024 but right after they installed my Seagate Portable drive could no longer be accesssed. It had always been my E: drive, now it shows as the D: drive which I believe was the recovery partition of the C: drive. It installs a file called Elevoc:_dnn_ kernel on this D: drive. I saw an issue involving this file and issues disconnecting a hard drive on the forum. Anyway I need help to resolve this, D: drive as it shows now is empty except for that file. I have tried different cables , different USB ports and

  3. Laptop updated and Seagate External Portable Hard Drive Not Working

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

When your laptop automatically updates and subsequently causes issues with external devices like your Seagate external portable hard drive, it's often due to compatibility issues or corrupted drivers. The error message "D:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" indicates a problem with accessing the drive, which could stem from a variety of issues including file system errors, drive corruption, or outdated drivers. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem:

    1. Check the Hard Drive on Another Computer: First, try connecting your Seagate external hard drive to another computer. This will help determine if the issue is with the hard drive itself or just its interaction with your laptop. If the drive works on another computer, the issue likely lies with your laptop's software or hardware settings.
    2. Run CHKDSK: If the hard drive is recognized but not accessible, use the Check Disk utility to scan and fix file system errors. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following command, then press Enter: chkdsk D: /f (replace D: with the correct drive letter assigned to your Seagate hard drive). This process will attempt to fix any file system errors on the drive.

Disclaimer: Running chkdsk can check the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. To avoid any trouble for you, do not cancel or interrupt chkdsk, and back up important data. More information please refer to this chkdsk | Microsoft Learn.
    3. Update or Reinstall Hard Drive Drivers: Sometimes, a Windows update can cause driver compatibility issues. Go to Device Manager, find your Seagate external hard drive under "Disk drives", right-click it, and select "Update driver". If that doesn't work, you can try uninstalling the device (right-click and select "Uninstall device"), then disconnect and reconnect the hard drive to let Windows reinstall the drivers.
    4. Use Windows' Error Checking Tool: Right-click on the drive icon in 'This PC' or 'My Computer', select 'Properties', go to the 'Tools' tab, and click on 'Check' under the 'Error checking' section. This can find and fix problems with the hard drive.
    5. Assign a New Drive Letter: Sometimes, a conflict in drive letters can cause accessibility issues. Go to Disk Management (you can search for it in the Windows search bar), right-click on your Seagate external hard drive, and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths". Then, click on "Change" and assign a new letter to the drive.
    6. Data Recovery Software: If you're still unable to access the drive and you have important data on it, consider using data recovery software before formatting. There are several reliable data recovery tools available that might help you recover your files.
    7. Format the Drive: If none of the above steps work and you don't need to recover data from the drive, formatting it could resolve the issue. Be aware that formatting will erase all data on the drive. To format the drive, right-click on it in 'This PC' or 'My Computer', select 'Format', choose the desired file system (NTFS is recommended for Windows), and click 'Start'.
If your hard drive contains important data that you haven't backed up, it's advisable to consult a professional data recovery service before attempting steps that might risk data loss, such as formatting the drive.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best regards

  4. Cannot access my Seagate Portable 1TB Hard Drive after KB5045935 & KB5046633 updates.

    Seagate hard drive

I have seagate portable hard drive and it is not connecting with Windows 10. It was able to connect 2 weeks ago. It states a portable is connect and unable to open. I have checked with seagate and there is no new hard drive updates to sort out the issue.
But I am able to use it when I connect to a different computer why dose Windows 10 have these issues. Even when I for a reason why I am been told that there are issue and what the issues but Windows 10 state that there is no issues and the portable hard drive
is working correctly. I think I should go back to an older software and not Windows 10.
