    Cannot access some websites

Suddenly a couple of days ago while looking through Youtube, I suddenly had a blue screen of death. PC has never been the same since! System Restore and Reset your PC both fail.

Also on Chrome I cannot access any https websites, on Edge I cannot access any websites, plus the latest Windows Update (ending in 266) fails. Kaspersky seems to update okay but Malwarebyte Anti Malware cannot update.

I've Googled my problem and tried various things from Command Line Prompt, most of which fail, and nothing has worked!

What can I do please? Is it possible that my C drive is corrupted? If so is it recoverable and how?

    :)

    Hi,

There are several possible reasons why you're unable to access some websites. It could be related to your web browser, network connection, or anti-virus software. For us to isolate your concern, we would like to know the following:

    • Are you getting any error messages? Could you post here a screenshot?
    • Did you make any changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    • Are you able to access the website on other devices using the same network connection?
    • Have you tried clearing your browser's cache, cookies, and browsing data?
    • Have you tried using a different web browser?

Keep us posted and we'll be needing to assist you further.

I ran check disk, it slowed right down at 57%, stopped at 62% then restarted the PC so I'm assuming it failed?

I ran sfc /scannow, got to 2% of the verification phase, and stopped with the message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."
    This is the report...

Go to the manufacturers website of your HDD and download their free HDD checker. Run it to make sure your HDD is not failing.

It would appear Crucial don't have their own checker, they recommend chkdsk.

Ok, let's see some SMART parameters for your HDD please..
For example you could use this
    KC Softwares
    - and post a screenshot.

Assuming your HDD is failing, you need to consider (e.g.)
    - what have I got backed up?
    - what have I not got backed up?
    - how can I back up what I hadn't thought about backing up?

I would normally recommend disk imaging, but your HDD may be too unreliable for that to be feasible.

Funny you should say about backing up, I was already in the process of backing stuff up to both my other internal HDD and also an external HDD!!!

Strangely, HDD Expert says the health of this drive (C) is okay, but the health of my I drive is dodgy!!!

Hi, thanks. Once you've backed up key things (and disk imaging is your ultimate backup and should (must in my experience!) be used routinely as Windows is fragile), I would suggest trying chkdsk again, but from a boot disk. E.g. from a command prompt from a Windows 10 disk... or anything else you have to hand. If you can't get that clear, I suggest you may need to think about a replacement disk.

If there is sthg amiss with your disk, then one might think copying from it (backup) should show that problem.
Therefore, I suggest you create a base disk image using e.g. Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backupper (which I use) as this reads all as part of the process of creating an image, and may reveal read errors.

Thank you for your help! Chkdsk still wouldn't work so I've taken it into our local repairer who will run detailed diagnosis on the hard drives, and then we'll decide whether to repair the files (if possible), or replace the disk!

Ended up rolling back to Windows 7 - after thorough hard drive testing by engineer, no faults were found, and he has had various cases of Windows 10 corrupting files, and also not interacting well with Kaspersky AntiVirus!

Hi, understand.. not heard of Win 10 corrupting files as such, but plenty of people have had issues upgrading and then incompatibilities with drivers, hardware or 3rd party programs. Hope you've not lost anything important.

Personally, this is early days for an OS. You have a Win 10 license for your particular PC, so you can carry on with Win 7, use disk imaging routinely and before any major change (Macrium Reflect Free, Aomei Backupper (free) - also gives a fully accessible backup.. and in a year or so try Win 10 again. However we feel about Win 7, ultimately new purchase hardware => Win 10 (or sthg completely different).
