Windows 10: Cannot access the Sound control panel

Discus and support Cannot access the Sound control panel in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; Not to worry. She must've name it that in the BIOS. Here is a non-intrusive utility called Belarc Advisor that will tell you everything about your PC.... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware' started by DENMON, Sep 26, 2017.

Helps a little. Quite honestly you're preaching to the choir here. I'm what they call an MS purist. aka Fan boy. I don't use but very few 3rd party anything just for the reasons you just gave. I watch users here that know more than me fix their systems or apps all the time. I'm not going to say I don't have problems from time to time, for Windows isn't a perfect system. I can say I hardly have any problems.

The only reason I recommended Belarc Advisor is because you don't know what you have. At the right of the page generated you should see your motherboard (MoBo) model.

Just to clarify my computer rarely has problems too, like sometimes minor things. I was just fine for about 2 years but this stood out because it was a little abnormal lol.

For my main circuit board ( I assume is the same thing as the mother board ) it has this stuff listed:

Board: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. MAXIMUS VI HERO Rev 1.xx
    Serial Number: 1666225243455300704
    Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
UEFI: American Megatrends Inc. 1301 12/20/2013

Do you need info for my drives?

No. The MoBo is what we need. Please delete some of the numbers in the serial number for security reasons by editing your post. Meanwhile I'll look up your MoBo.

    Ya never know these days.

Is this what you have comparing it to the Advisor page? Not sure about the Rev 1.xxx. Might be the first generation of the board? Not that it matters all that much.

BTW, which browser did the Advisor use to open the page? If Chrome, you may save it to your Documents folder to view again.

I copied and pasted it so the info there is exact (except for the serial number now)

Ok good. You may generate a page at any time.

On the MoBo page I linked > Click on "Support" at the top right > Click on "Drivers and tools" > Select the OS (Look on your Advisor page for what you have) > Scroll down to "Audio" > That's the Realtek driver you want. You can download it, but do not install it. You may not need it.

In thinking about this again, do this first and report back if it fixes your issue. It takes a bit of time, but might be worth it:

I am on the 4th step for option 1 and I am not exactly sure what to write in the command prompt since some I don't have a windows 10 label and some "ltr" are missing letters

I believe what he intended for you to do, without spelling it out, was do Option #3....the regular simple version.

At an elevated (Admin) command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press enter.

Thank you for the clarification, however while it was scanning, it stopped at 29% and then said "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

    Is this bad?
