    Cannot Adjust Brightness After Windows Update again


    After updating Windows a few days ago, it broke brightness adjustment on my laptop. There's been reports of similar issues over the years, but I haven't been to fix it.


    I'm using Windows 10 x64 on an Asus with Intel HD 630 / NVidia GeoForce GTX 1050, all drivers have been kept up-to-date and it was working perfectly fine before the automated update.


    I tried completely uninstalling both Intel and NVidia drivers using "Display Driver Uninstaller" utility, and reinstalling the latest versions. The problem persists.


    How can I fix this?

    Brightness can not be adjusted.

    Hi Sirajudeen,

    Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

    • What is the make and model of your device?
    • Were you able to see any error message/ error code with this issue?
    • Have you tried to install all the pending updates for drivers and Windows Updates on your device?

    This issue might have happened due to corrupted/ outdated drivers.

    I suggest you to refer to the below Microsoft article, try the troubleshooting steps suggested to change the brightness and check if it helps.

    Adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast

    Cannot adjust display brightness in Windows 10

    What is the make and model of your PC?

    Let’s try with some steps which helps you resolving the issue.

    Step 1: I suggest you to update the Display drivers
    and check if it helps you.

    Refer:
    Uninstall and Reinstall the graphics card drivers

    If that doesn't help uninstall and reinstall latest graphic driver from manufacturer's website.

    Note: Update all the drivers and also install all the pending updates and check.

    Step 2: After installing and Updating refer the below steps to check how to automatically adjust the brightness.

    • Press Windows + I keys and select System.
    • Select Display and check the Adjust brightness automatically
    • Restart the machine.
