Cannot change Lockscreen picture, I belong to an organisation (?)

    Hello all

    Situation:
Bought a new HP Envy 17 laptop with Windows 8.1 and updated it to Windows 10. Logging in with a MS-Account

Some issues have appeared, one that is bothering me is the following:

I try to change the lockscreen picture, but Windows 10 will not allow it. It has a red banner at the top of the settings window stating that some of the settings are managed by my organisation.

This is completely silly as the laptop has never, ever been part of a domain or registered in an organisation. Neither has the MS-Account, it has been used on a single laptop before, but never as part of a domain or in an organisation.

How can I get my laptop "out" of an organisation that I have never joined?

There are some other settings that also are disabled, and I want to get control of my laptop.

    Thanks!

    :)

    Windows Spotlight image stuck

Hi , If you cannot change the picture for your spotlight lockscreen , you can download beautiful pictures from Bing to your pictures folder and then instead choose to have a picture on the lockscreen by changing it from the spotlight to picture and browse
to the picture folder to choose which picture you would like to use. The lockscreen seems to work sometimes and sometimes not. You can also download themes in the windows store.

    Bing and search for images

  3. Windows 10 Home; Spotlight lock screen background does not work properly.

There is still a problem with Windows Spotlight and setting the LockScreen background Picture in Windows 10 Pro. Loading 12 brand new HP laptops, freshly updated, brand new and I have issues on a few of them with Windows Spotlight. My issue is I cannot
set a LockScreen Picture for the background image, it keeps showing the same stuck Spotlight picture.

The problem: LockScreen- Spotlight never changes, gets stuck on one picture. Changing to Picture, and setting a new Lock Screen picture, still keeps showing the stuck Spotlight image on the lock screen. Change LockScreen to Spotlight from Picture, close
Settings, re-open LockScreen settings, it is set back to Picture. Set a Lockscreen custom picture, change LockScreen to Spotlight then back to Picture, custom picture is lost and it shows the stuck Spotlight Picture. Lockscreen-Spotlight shows a greyed out
background with no image in settings.

    Obviously this is a bug.

Solution: The only solution which seems to resolve some of this for me.

    1. Set LockScreen to Picture

    2. Navigate to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_<somecharacters>\Settings

    3. Delete both files here. Do not rename them.

    4. Set LockScreen to Windows Spotlight

    5. Open Powershell( x86) as Admin and Run the following command

    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode}

    6. Restart

    7. Set the LockScreen background picture again, and it should stick now.

This does not seem to resolve the messed up Spotlight issues, something is very broken with Lock Screen Spotlight in Windows 10.

Cannot change Lockscreen picture, I belong to an organisation (?)

Well check in the group policy editor (gpedit) if there are any policies active that forbid changing the lockscreen picture.

Thanks for the quick tip, altae.
I have the WIndows 10 "Core" Edition, and Microsoft apparently decided in its unending wisdom to make gpedit a feature of Pro and Enterprise ONLY.

So, Windows messes up a setting during setup and the tool to correct it is not installed. Another reason for the extended love-hate realtionsship we have with Redmond....

I hope that somethow an Update will appear to solve this bug, untill then, any help is appreciated.

Oh, thats bad. That's why I don't like the core editions. Too many pro features left out. But you could still search for the corresponding registry entries since eventually gpedit does nothing more than changing registry keys (at least for most policies that's the case).

By the way, it seems changing the lockscreen picture doesn't work (reliably) anyway. If you take a look at the forums you will discover lot's of people having troubles with it, me included. Guess we have to wait for an update...

Yeah, so much for someone deciding you dont need that...

The thing that is really worrying me is that this "controlled by your organisation" may be somewhere else in the system too, not just the lockscreen, which is certainly a minor issue. Who knows what other settings are blocked?

Go to pc settings->privacy->feedback and diagnostics and set the 2nd option to the 2nd or 3rd option, not the 1st, and the "controlled by your organisation" should be gone.

Alternatively you can try if gpedit can also be added under Windows 10 using this method. It's for Windows 7/ 8 but it might to work for Windows 10 too. Just don't forget to create a system image before you start playing with it.
