Windows 10: cannot delete a file through any means even though i have complete control

so i saved a pdf on my computer and when i didn't need it i tried to delete, it does not get deleted. i tried deleting with the preview pane off still no result. i browsed the internet and found out that i can delete it through administrator command prompt or just shift+delete. it did not work as command prompt gives me a message saying the path does not exist. when i tried opening it, it says file does not exist. i tried through safe mode and still could not get any results. i tried using windows defender and the scan showed no threats. I'm freaking out whether my computer has a virus or not.

Complete file control in Vista?

I want to move and delete some of the core Vista files on my P4 PC, but I dont have full control of them. How do I gain COMPLETE control over a directory + files?
OS is Vista Home Basic.

Hi,

The issue could be because of corrupted files. I suggest you to delete the corrupted files yourself and see if it helps

to resolve the issue, please follow these steps:

1) Make sure your children are signed out of any monitored accounts.

2) Sign in with an administrator account and find the folder that contains the corrupted files.

There are two ways to do this. The easiest way is to enter the complete file path:

• 
  On the Start screen, type C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls and press Enter.
  

• 
  If you’d rather open each folder individually, follow these steps:
  

a. Go to This PC

b. Open C:, open the
ProgramData folder, open the Microsoft folder, open the
Windows folder, and open the Parental Controls folder.

3) Delete all contents of the Parental Controls folder.

This will delete any corrupt files. Your settings will be downloaded again from familysafety.microsoft.com the next time you sign in.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
