Windows 10: Cannot detect USB 3.0 flash drive

I tried to assign drive letter and name for the removeable flash drive, but “disc management” process not able to proceed with formating the USB flash drive. Error prompt “ specified file not identified” which also lead conversion failure of RAW TO NTFS or FAT. Naturally laptop not able to detect the USB Drive when plug it in.


Any insights?

Well Linux didn't detect it.

Usb 3.0 Flash Drive isn't being detected.

The drive i use to install windows with will not be detected in any of my usb ports or on my wifes pc or my sons pc. Bios don't even see it. Any program i can use to at least get the files off it and then pitch it in the garbage.

I ordered a new one a sandisk solid state usb 3.2 256gb flash drive.

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
