Windows 10: Cannot disable touchpad when using mouse since Windows 10 upgrade 1903

After upgrading to Windows 10 Version 1903 two things happened. 1) my setting to disable the touchpad when a usb mouse is connected was reset without my knowledge or OK. 2) The ability to change this setting disappeared entirely from the Device > Touchpad screen. So now I am left with always having the touchpad active even when I am using a mouse. I don't know if others have this problem but for me this causes frequent accidental actions on the touchpad that cause havoc with what I am doing at the time. So I want this option restored. And I cannot just disable the touchpad for all situations because then if my mouse fails or the battery dies I simply cannot use the computer at all until I fix or replace the mouse. Anyone have a solution?

I want to disable touchpad on Dell laptop


Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:

• start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
• windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
• various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
• device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.

Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.

Disabling touchpad gestures in Windows 10

Precision touchpad is one of the improvements recently brought to Windows 10 to support touch gestures. Is you device running on Windows Creators Update? If yes, follow the steps below to disable touchpad:

• Go to Settings.
• Select Ease of Access.
• Click Touchpad.
• Under Touchpad, toggle the switch on or off.
• You can also uncheck the box beside Leave touchpad on the when a mouse is connectedoption to disable it when you use a traditional mouse.
  

Once done with the steps above, check if the issue will persist.
