    Cannot enter sleep mode

Windows 10 is simply not able to enter sleep mode. Whenever I try, the monitor shuts off, but the computer power does not. When I move the mouse, the log-in screen appears (as it would when your computer comes out of sleep).

I looked at Windows Event Viewer, and this is what I found for my attempt to sleep just a moment ago (Event 10016, DistributedCOM):

    "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
    and APPID
    {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

I went to these IDs in regedit, and attempted to change their security permissions. I received an error message saying "Unable to save permission changes on {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}" (or the CLSID).

Looking at the above CLSID registry entry more closely, I find that it corresponds to a program called RunTimeBroker.exe. The official Windows website has instructions on how to change the permissions for this program, namely, by opening Component services, going to RunTimeBroker, opening its Properties, and adjusting its Access Permissions in the Security tab. However, the entire tab is greyed out for me. Any help here would be appreciated.

    :)

  2. Samsung Ultrabook cannot enter sleep mode

Unfortunately nothing of the above worked. The problem existed after I upgraded and also after I made a clean install. I can shutdown and hibernate my Ultrabook but I cannot set it in sleep mode. It only shuts the screen but fan, leds, etc stay ON. There
is also no activity from the disk. I cannot activate it again when I press any button, including power button. I only have to press power button continuously to reset it and power it up again.

Still nothing trying to solve the problem. I downgraded Intel Management Engine without any result. Is there anyone with the NP530U3B Samsung Ultrabook with the same problem?

    Cannot enter sleep mode

Just something that is not so "high tech ".

    1. Use a different mouse if it is a wireless mouse. The wireless mouse might be too sensitive to pick up everything and triggers the computer.
    2. Put a mouse pad under the mouse, if you don't use one.
    3. Remove/unplug the mouse and see if Sleep mode will commence without interruption.

This did not work. I removed/unplugged the mouse, and executed Sleep mode via command prompt (rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0). Same problem.

Moreover, in Device Manager, my HID-compliant mouse has "Allow this device to wake the computer" unchecked. The same is true for my keyboard, so neither of these devices should be a problem.

Finally, under Power Options, my "Allow wake timers" setting is set to Disable, and for my Multimedia settings "When sharing media" is set to Allow the computer to sleep.

Despite all this, the problem remains.

    Troubleshooting methods only :

    1. Make sure your computer is clean. Run a full scan.
    2. Do a system file check to look for corrupt files. It will try to do repair if any found.
Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
    sfc /scannow

    > press Enter.
    It will take quite sometime.
When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
    1. No integrity violation.
    2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
    3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.
If the report is #3, use this method................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    > press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

Disable OneDrive. My wife's computer was going to sleep just fine until two days ago. Couldn't figure out why until I remembered that I had enabled it to sync her windows settings to her laptop. I disabled it a few hours ago and checked several times and each time it would go to sleep just fine again. Just an idea not sure if it will help

    marron674,

    Another suggestion.
Create another user account with exactly the same privileges as this one > logon to it > set your power options > see if it will go to sleep mode properly.
If it does, then your original account is corrupted. Backup the files you want to keep > delete the corrupt account.
