  1. cannot exceed 100 mbps

    6/22/2020

I subscribe to Spectrum for their ultra fast internet. Their tech came to my house and said that he measured a speed of 400 plus mbps at the modem. He said the refurbished router that Spectrum also provided may not be performing to max and that I should purchase a new router just to be sure. I did. It did not however change my receiving/sending speeds when using Spectrum's suggested speed test site. I then called Spectrum back and they said my PCI adapter, even though connected from the router via an ethernet cable to my desktop's PCI card's adapter directly, still was limited to 100/100 mbps. Also, my laptop tested at the same exact speed of 94 mbps via wi-fi! They said the slow internet speeds were due to my computers not being able to receive or send the faster internet speeds. So, I asked my friend who suggested that I ask Microsoft if there is a way to increase the speed, apparently limited by my Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller on my Desktop. My tech friend said that the PCI card mentioned could handle up to 1GB speeds. So, how do I increase the PCI network adapter's speed to accept the 400 mbps speeds. Or is that even verifiable, since my laptops network adapter's speed was limited to 144 mbps and also only received/sent 94 mbps?

My internet speeds seem to be adequate for my computer use. It's just that I cannot verify that I am getting any of the speeds they say they guarantee. I was hoping that an increase in internet speed would help my television's ethernet cabled receiving speeds.

So, in sum: 1 Can I change the limits on either of my computers' network adapters? and,

2 How can I measure and verify that Spectrum is really sending me the faster internet speeds they guarantee?

  2. Unable to do more than 50 Mbps on an LTE Cat.4 150 Mbps Lumia 640

    Hello,

For a week that I accumulated all possible tests, and there is a problem :

Even in places where with the same operator, I can reach and exceed 100 Mbps with an Android phone, my Lumia 640 (Microsoft Edge, Speedtest.net and Internet Sharing
, as well as the 3 added) do not allow me to exceed 50 Mbps.

My absolute record is 46 Mbps at the same place where an equivalent model under Android makes more than 100 Mbps (LTE Cat.4 150 Mbps max too)

Is anybody able to do some tests with this phone ? Am I the only one to encounter this problem ?

    Thank you in advance

Windows 10 Update - Internet keeps going down to 10-15 Mbps download speed

    Hi Lester,

It slightly got a bit better, but I'm only getting 20 Mbps now. Originally, I was getting 5 Mbps, but now it jumped up to 20 Mbps. It's supposed to be 100 Mbps.

    Any other suggestions?

    Best,

    Kevin

  4. cannot exceed 100 mbps

Windows 10 is not responding to the change from 25 Mbps to 100 Mbps

My recent upgrade to 100 Mbps (from 25 Mbps) is somehow ignored by my Windows 10 laptop. The Windows 7 had no problem accepting it.

I had Linksys test my router; it works fine. The older Motorola modem from Spectrum seems to work ok. The first (customer friendly) Spectrum tech said I should swap the modem for a newer Arres 1602 non-wireless model. Meanwhile, hardwired tests
showed a 98.8 upload and 11.7 download, but as soon as I switched back to wifi, it was only 28.6
Upload and 11.5 download. The next two (sales-oriented) techs pushed their all-in-one modem that costs $5.- extra per month. Being on a fixed income, I need to count my pennies. Does anyone know what I should
do to get the full wifi benefit that I am paying for?
