Windows 10: Cannot get any smartcard reader to work with Windows 11 Pro

Hi all,I have now bought 4 different brands of smartcard reader and none of them work with Windows 11 Pro. When I go to device manager, I see the generic inf file wudfusbcciddriver.inf for the generic smartcart reader driver - which dates back to 21/06/2006!!Yesterday I bought a SITECOM All-in-One ID Card Reader : model MD-065 V1 001This make and model is supposed to be compatible with Windows 11 and the Belgian eID software which I'm trying to use to read my national idendity card. However, there is no later driver available, and sitecom doesn't produce their own driver.I don't get any inform

Smartcard login

My new laptop, a Thinkpad T480s has a smartcard reader and is shipped with Window 10 Pro. How can I use the smartcard reader to log into Windows using a smartcard?

I'm not really interested in all kinds of technical stuff about smartcards, I'm just a home user and I have a smartcard reader and several smartcards that might be usable. Simple as that. I don't need filesystem encryption for now either.

I see it as just logging in with an alternative input - not unlike fingerprint login really.

But instead of fingerprint, I want to use smartcard.

How to do it?

 

smartcard reader wont work

i have a SCR3310 v2.0 smartcard reader and my computer recognizes it in devise manager, but when i put my CAC in the card reader it acts like there is nothing there. I've tried on multiple different computers and they all work. I've tried updating the
drivers on the card reader and still nothing. is it just my computer?

And to be more confusing, this is HP EliteDesk with keyboardintgrated smartcard reader and works fine. Same driver info and requirement for furhter installation.
