    Cannot install KB3172985

    Hello.

I cannot complete installation of the aforementioned update, neither using Windows Update nor running the offline update installer (959.381.674 bytes). After restarting; when the "Preparing Windows" screen appears, it does nothing and reboots (no percentage shown). It says "we cannot complete installation, reverting changes" after that.

It seems I am not alone in this: kb3172985 and 3174060 - Microsoft Community

    Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Problems in Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3172985) installation

Every time I try to install Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3172985) it installs up to 75% then stops. It then says cannot install and undoes the changes.

  3. Windows 10 0x80073712 KB3172985

    Greeting Rakesh,

Thank you for getting back with me. Just to be clear, I do not have an issue with "booting into my system". That process works fine. As stated, I cannot load KB3172985. Since I opened this problem ticket, I have been able to load firmware on 7/21/2016 and
KB890830 and KB3174060 on 7/21/16. It is just KB3172985 that fails to install.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

For anyone who is interested I FIXED IT doing the following procedure:

    1. I downloaded latest ISO with the Media Creation Tool and burnt it to DVD.
    2. I did an in-place upgrade installation from within w10.
    3. Windows 10 was downgraded actually (from build 10586.318 to build 10586.164).
    4. I ran the offline installer for that update (914 MB). this time it worked flawlessly. I am now at build 10586.494.
    5. Windows Update is still downloading some other updates. Fingers crossed.

I just fixed my Windows 10 32bit PC doing this procedure...

Right on the heels of Elpusher...I've FIXED my HANNSPREE SN12E which would not do the update...
I did it differently...I ran the GetWindows10-sds_____________.exe file which initiates a Windows 10
update download....It took several hours but successfully completed and laid Windows 10
over my current setup...The only thing I had to do was put the license back in Kaspersky...
AND...Much to my surprise...When it was done I did a WINVER and it was already
at 10586.494...I did not have to run the update...It was already installed with the
downloaded Windows 10 that had been installed....I ran update again and it updated
three more things including the previous cumulative update but that finished immediately
as the .494 download appeared have updated everything already...
I am running Windows 10 HOME 32bit on this Laptop...
I have uploaded the GetWindows10-sds_____________.exe file to my ftp server for anyone who needs it
    at the following
    http://web.newsguy.com/confused/GetW...__________.exe
This file is how I initiated the upgrade last year on all nine of my computers.
This works on 32bit Windows 10...I do not know if this works on 64bit Win10.
So all nine of my computers are now 10586.494...

No. Everything will be left as it was. Some configurations will be reset to defaults (like Defrag schedule, network). Right now my w10 system is working smoothest than ever.

Check your System Reserved Partition and make sure you have free space.

I was having a similar problem. This update kept failing. Every time I rebooted Windows would try to install the update and then would give me the message that the update could not be installed and it was undoing the changes. I then discovered by chance the reason why I could not install this update. My System Reserve Partition was full. After freeing up space on this partition I was able to install the update. It would be nice if MS would have provided this as a reason for not being able to install the update. They only way I discovered this was when I tried to use the Media Creation tool to do an upgrade; thinking this would be a way around the update failing. The tool provided the error that it could do the upgrade because it could not update the System Reserve Partition. I had installed kaspersky and it had filled up the remaining space on this partition. I assigned a drive letter to this partition and deleted the Kaspersky directory and freed up space on the partition. I only spent 10 hours trying to figure this one out.
    Regards,
    Joey

BRKING, Did you check to see how much free space you have on your System Reserved Partition?

    Cannot install KB3172985

If you have changed your default Program Files directory in the registry to a different drive, the updates will not install.
