    Cannot install Windows 10 v2004 or v20H2


    I have been attempting to update Windows 10 to bot c2004 and v20H2 for a few months now but continue to receive the 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 : The The installation failed in the SAFW_OS phase with and error during BOOT operation


    I have performed all steps outline, updating drivers, checking disk space, etc, and have now reached the frustration point. I have also reviewed and attempted to retrieve error logs but there has been nothing returned in those logs to direct me in a direction of WHY the update is failing.


    Is there anyone that can assist?

    Installed okay but is not listed in Settings Update and Security "View Update History"

    UPDATE 11/23: KB4586853 has now been updated a second time for Windows 10 version 2004 build 19041.662 and version 20H2 build19042.662.

    UPDATE 11/19: KB4594440 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.631 and v20H2 19042.631

    If you already updated to 661 or 662, then 631 will not be available since 661 is a higher build. No need to do anything.


    Currently, the update is distributed early via WSUS, and not via Windows Update.

    Fixed:
    • The repair install (in-place upgrade) on Windows 10 20H2 works again. The update must be installed. After that you can also use a current 19042.630 ISO for an inplace.
    • The dark properties window issue has now also been fixed
    • Task Manager has been renewed. This will start again as a small window after the update.
    • The Defrag DLLs have been updated. Whether it will bring improvements is not yet clear.
