  3. No option to pin apps to taskbar or uninstall apps

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Open an Administrator CMD window. If you can’t find a way, use these steps:

      • Press CTRL+Shift+ESC to open Task Manager.

      • Click File > Run New Task

      • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”

      • Type CMD

    • Type the following commands at the CMD prompt:

      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

      sfc /scannnow

Then try to check if you find the option by right clicking on any app.

Let us know the status of the issue.

  4. Cannot open CMD in advanced options

Unable to open advanced troubleshooting options

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

Given the context of your situation, where you're dealing with a "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO" error and having trouble accessing the advanced troubleshooting options due to repeated system freezes and issues arising from automatic updates on a second-hand PC, it seems like your system is in a critical state. This error often points to problems with the Windows Registry or the hardware configuration. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue or at least get your system to a more stable state:

    Accessing Advanced Options via Boot

Since the usual methods are not working for you, try accessing the Advanced Troubleshooting Options through the boot process:

    • To access Advanced Options in Windows 10, you can follow these steps:
      1. Click on the Start menu and select the Settings icon (gear-shaped) to open the Settings app.
      2. In the Settings app, click on "Update & Security".
      3. In the Update & Security section, click on "Recovery" in the left sidebar.
      4. Under the "Advanced startup" section, click on the "Restart now" button. This will restart your computer and bring up the Advanced Options menu.
    System Restore

If you can access the advanced options:

    • Select System Restore and follow the prompts to choose a restore point before the issues began. This can revert your system settings and configurations to a state before the problems started, potentially bypassing the corruption.
    Startup Repair

    From the Advanced Options:

    • Choose Startup Repair and let Windows attempt to fix startup-related issues automatically.
    Command Prompt Fixes

If the above methods don't work, you can try some command-line repairs:

    • From the Advanced Options, select Command Prompt.
    • Once in Command Prompt, you might want to try repairing your system files with the System File Checker tool by typing

      sfc /scannow

      and pressing Enter.
    • If system file corruption is a concern, the Deployment Image Service and Management Tool (DISM) can also be helpful. Type

      DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

      and press Enter.
    Check the Disk for Errors

Still in Command Prompt from the Advanced Options:

    • Type

      chkdsk /f /r

followed by the drive letter (usually

      chkdsk /f /r C:

and press Enter. This will check the disk for errors and attempt to fix them.

Disclaimer: Running chkdsk can check the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. To avoid any trouble for you, do not cancel or interrupt chkdsk, and back up important data.

More information please refer to this chkdsk | Microsoft Learn.
    BIOS/UEFI Settings Reset

    • If you suspect that incorrect BIOS/UEFI settings might be contributing to the issue, consider resetting your BIOS/UEFI to default settings. Access your BIOS/UEFI by pressing the key indicated during the boot process (often Del, F2, F10, etc.), find the option to reset to defaults (often named "Load Default," "Load Optimal Defaults," or similar), save changes, and exit.
    • Disclaimer: Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.

If you are going to modify BIOS Settings, please back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.
    Reinstall Windows

As a last resort, if you can access your data and back it up by connecting the hard drive to another PC or through Safe Mode, consider reinstalling Windows. This will give you a fresh start and should eliminate software-related issues, but it will also erase all data on the system drive, so it's crucial to back up first.

Given the complexity of the issue and the state of your PC, these steps might or might not resolve the problem. If you're uncomfortable performing any of these actions or if the problem persists, seeking professional help might be the best course of action, especially to rule out any potential hardware failures contributing to the instability.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best regards
