Windows 10: cannot open picture files due to system error -2147219196

As from yesterday have been unable to open any picture files whether new ones or existing photos which have been on my machine for ages. I need access to these pictures for my work and this is now affecting my income.
Microsoft need to deal with this issue as it has clearly happened after their last update.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can get this resolved asap?

Also Calculator will not open

Exact same issue here after update this weekend.

All of my pictures have file system error 2147219196 no matter what program I choose to open, default or otherwise.

• Is the issue happening on apps only or is it also happening with programs installed on your computer?

No apps, this is a desktop PC. Pictures include new ones taken today and legacy ones going back decades.

• Have you tested if is this also happening on other user profiles?

Only one profile on my PC, the Admin one

• Are the files that you tried to open launch on other devices such as a different laptop or a mobile device?

Yes open fine on mobile phone. Also these opened for me on this machine perfectly before this last update.

Trying sfc /scannow as a fix... did not fix. Awaiting help please.

I just started getting this error File System Error (-2147219196). when trying to open photos?

I've tried restarting and resetting the windows photo app but still isn't working.

How do I fix?

 

You can try to update your Windows system files to fix this file system error as the followed steps:
1. Type “update” in the Search box and press “Enter”.
2. Click “Windows Update”. Then check for updates and install the available updates in Windows Update dialog.
3. Restart the computer after finishing update.
If this doesn't work for you, either, you can check whether there is bad sector in this drive via running chkdsk utility (Type “cmd” in the Search box and hit “Enter”, Right click Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”, Input “chkdsk c:/f” and press “Enter”.) or 3rd party tool.
