    Cannot remove a folder

    Hello,
Recently I had some remote assistance to my computer, after all finished, I found in the program files directory a folder named "CMAK". I am trying to remove it but nothing works, not even in command prompt as admin.
Each time I touch it, in the task manager processes list there is a 'com serogate' opened.
How to get rid of this folder ?
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    :)

  3. I Cannot Remove a Broken, Empty Folder from Quick Acess

Open Start, type: file explorer options

    Hit Enter

Under the General tab, click restore default

Restart then see if the problem is resolved.

    If not...

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Task Manager

    Select the Processes tab

Scroll down to Windows Explorer then select it

    Click Restart

    If that does not work:

    uninstall your display driver:

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Uninstall

    Exit Device Manager

    Restart

  4. Cannot remove a folder

Beware, this thing is dangerous if you don't pay attention, but it should solve your problem. One of the members here gave it to me and it's worked .Copy the text into a .bat file, edit to remove a folder (rd) or file (del)

: Drag-drop the undeletable folder onto the icon of this batch script
: (make sure it’s the right folder!). Remove the batch file when done.
    :
    :
    Rem rd /s /q \\?\%1

  5. Well, I'd be VERY careful about deleting it. You say you recently had some remote assistance, and this file/folder belongs to :
"The cmak.exe is a Microsoft Connection Manager Administration Kit.

This file is part of Microsoft(R) Connection Manager. Cmak.exe is developed by Microsoft Corporation. It’s a system and hidden file. Cmak.exe is usually located in the %WINDOWS% sub-folder and its usual size is 501,248 bytes."

If you are bound and determined to get rid of it you can try Unlocker :

    Download Unlocker - MajorGeeks

Is it causing any trouble or just sitting there? If its benign I'd just leave it myself.

Besides the comments above, you can disable this feature from Add / remove programs and features for Windows (in Control panel). Also disable remote assistance (temporary, if you gonna need it again) and you should be able to delete folder in normal way, otherwise it will reappear.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the answers.
The file size is not as in the answer. Name of file is "CMBINS.exe" and it is located with some other files in a CMAK folder, in the program files tree. I tried the command prompt, the power-shell, and three different programs including the Unlocker - nothing worked, it refuses to be deleted.
    Any other options ?
    Thanks again

    Cannot remove a folder

Burn Linux Mint iso on a CD and boot the PC from that. Deleting the file is then easy.

  9. Actually everything I've found about this CMAK and CMBINS you refer to say it is part of Microsoft's systems. "The cmbins.exe is a Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor. " You said something earlier about getting some remote assistance, what was it for if you don't mind me asking? Was the issue resolved? Was your registry involved in any way? I ask because both files/folders you mention pertain to registry/remote assistance. Are you getting errors that mention them? If so, have you been here? Its Microsoft's Fixit for the errors:

    http://www.microsoftfixit.us/cmbins-exe/

Again, is this causing problems? If not I would just leave it be. Another question, just curious, do you have your hidden files/folders visible?

This really does look like the better solution. Safer. If you uncheck it and apply, it will remove the components, and probably the folder. I wouldn't try to force-feed it.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the answers.
    Here is the story.
My win 10 system is old. Several times I tried to upgrade the system (posted questions on this forum about upgrade), but it did not work. So several months ago asked a computer tech. to try remotely assist upgrading. He told me to download some program and install it, I saw everything what he was doing, upgrade was downloaded but it did not work, old motherboard, no drivers to update.
From time to time microsoft starts pushing the upgrade to my computer but it does not work.
So the CMAK and some other folder are remains from that remote assistance.
Now I have in mind to buy a new modern computer with the latest system installed, and install all my programs.
All folders and files were set to be visible.
I do not get any errors, only this annoying from microsoft trying to upgrade.
And "Com.surrogate" several times a day, or when I touch this CMAK folder, so I click the 'end task'
So this is, in short, the story.
    Thanks

  13. Cannot remove a folder

The Windows Update is the one trying to upgrade your Windows 10 to latest version those folder or file nothing to do with the Windows Update.

What i don't understand is you already using Windows 10 which is already have the drivers for your computer so how come upgrading to latest version of Windows 10 make you think you also need to update the device drivers which you don't as long they don't cause problem.

    Hello,
My windows 10 pro is an old version, same is my pc and motherboard.
There were several attempt to upgrade the system (posted the upgrade problems here on this forum time ago), at certain points at one of the restarts, computer froze, even for over the night.
Finaly got a message that system was restored to previous version with an error number.
Searching what this error means, found it is because of a bad driver. Since motherboard is old, there are not any update drivers, checked it on the manufacturer's site and even with some "doctor" programs - nothing found.
So until a new pc, I work with what I have, only keep to update windows defender.

  15. You can create a another free partition and clean install latest version of Windows 10 on this partition and install the device drivers to see issue resolves. I will help you delete and merge the unallocated space with any partition you want.
