Cannot see a WiFi network & cannot connect to any network

I have a Lenovo N22 laptop running a fully updated Windows 10 Pro (20H2). A week ago I had a Netgear router running with a private class C LAN IP address range. The router was at address 204.107.91.254. Everything on my network worked fine, including the Lenovo.

The Netgear router turned out to be a bottleneck, so I recently removed it and started using WiFi router built into Xfinity cable modem/router. Due to range restrictions in the modem, the LAN IP address block had to be changed to 10.10.10. and the router is now 10.10.10.1. I have updated all devices, including an Amped access point, used to provide access in a distant location, that is hardwired to the cable modem/router and assigned 10.10.10.253. The access point, three hardwired Windows 10 computers, a hardwired Linux computer (all with static IP addresses), and two Android WiFi phones (DHCP assignment) all connect to the LAN without problems, both directly at the router or through the access point.

However, the Lenovo, which doesn't have an Ethernet port and can only connect through WiFi, refuses to even see the modem/router's broadcast SSID and while it can apparently "see" the 2.4 and 5.0GHz SSIDs from the access point, it cannot connect to either.

I have read over 50 articles regarding this type of problem and performed every test and reset I know of without any improvement.

I ran the network troubleshooter and it cannot fix the problem. The detailed report says zero visible access points, even though it lists the two bands from the access point and the single SSID from the modem/router (which is a shared name for 2.4 and 5.0).

I've run netsh int ip reset and netsh int ipv4 reset without luck.

I turned off all firewalls without success.

I tried ipconfig /release (and other options) but it reports: No operations can be performed on [lan/bluetooth/wifi] connection while it has its media disconnected.

    I've power-cycled and rebooted everything.

I tried setting a static ipv4 address on the Lenovo rather than DHCP.

I updated the host file for both DHCP and/or static ip.

I told it to forget the modem/router SSID and ran netsh wlan delete profile="name"

I ran netsh wlan show networks and it reports the two access point SSIDs as expected, but still cannot connect to them.

So I'm coming here to see if anyone has some insight as to what might be going on, or some deeper knowledge of what to at this point. Thanks for any insights you can offer.

    :)

  2. Losing network connection

Hello Dear, if you have a laptop or a PC with a wireless network adapter, you can see a list of available wireless networks and then connect to one of those networks. The wireless networks will only appear if your PC has a wireless network adapter installed, the adapter is turned on, and the wireless access point is in range.

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

    2. In the left pane, under Network Tasks, click View available wireless networks.
In case, If you don't see the network you want to connect to, click Refresh network list. If you see the network but the signal is weak, move the PC closer to the wireless router.

    3. Click the network you want to connect to, and then click Connect.

    4. If you're connecting to a secure network, type the security key, and then click OK.

I Hope you solve out your query soon.

How to connect to an existing wifi network?

As you suggested, I tried disabling the ethernet adapter and that caused wi-fi to connect, so the desktop wifi does work. Also, I accessed the router and changed the wireless network name (to wfCHS). Thanks!

However many problems are still unresolved:

My laptop behaves just as I want it to. Assuming the router has wifi turned on and the laptop has an ethernet connection, connection to the internet is by ethernet (no private network name), and the wi-fi connection is to my private network "wfCHS", but with no connection to the internet. (If I disconnect the ethernet cable, then wfCHS becomes connected to the internet and stays that way even if I reconnect the cable.) A directory listing shows both laptop and desktop under "Network". Great!

Things are rather different with the desktop. With Ethernet disabled, the desktop shows a wi-fi connection to the internet. Under Settings > Status it's called "wfCHS" but under Network Connections it's called wfCHS2. If I then re-enable the ethernet connection, the wifi connection stays enabled for a minute or two, then disconnects. Further, the ethernet connection is given the name wfCHS2 under both Status and Network Connections.

Why does the desktop give an (unwanted) name to the ethernet connection while the laptop doesn't?

Why does the desktop disconnect its wi-fi connection a minute or so after the ethernet connection is enabled, while the laptop doesn't?

Why does the desktop give two different names to the wifi connection, depending on whether it's viewed under Status or Network Connections, while the laptop doesn't?

Why does the laptop show the desktop under Network, while the desktop shows only itself?

Things are so convoluted that I'd be happy to start over. I've had the desktop "forget" the wi-fi connection as you suggested, then re-established it, but this hasn't helped. Can the ethernet connection also be "forgotten"?

Really appreciate the help you've given so far!

Cannot see a WiFi network & cannot connect to any network

    "Can't connect to this network."

I just bought a wifi card for my windows 10 desktop (a tp-link archer t8e) and cannot connect to my network.

I have the wifi icon on the tray, I can get a list of available networks but after entering the wpa key for my network it just shows the message "Can't connect to this network."

Network diagnosis just suggested connecting to a wifi network (why didn't I think of that...), does anyone here have any clue as to what the problem could be?

UPDATE: Just noticed that the wifi adapter is being disabled briefly just after I enter the network password, no idea what's going on.
