Windows 10: Cannot update Age of Empires 2 to the steam edition.

My friend and I are trying to play Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition together but I have the game on the Microsoft store, whereas he has it on Steam. We have the same game but they are under two different version numbers. His on steam is 101.101.44834.0.0 6148570, but my game is under version number 101.101.44834.0.0.


We both have crossplay enabled on our games, but are unable to see eachother as friends on steam/microsoft or join eachothers custom lobbies whether they are made public/private. Please help, I don't want my friend to have wasted his money.

AGE OF EMPIRES 2

Age of Empires and Age of Empires 2 do not work properly with Windows 10, but Age of Empires 2 HD and Age of Empires III is available on Steam

I have all of Microsoft's available remastered games in Steam

If any game doesn't work on Windows 10 even with compatibility setting, then make sure report it using
Feedback Hub app.

 

Age of Empires 2

If you are playing this game off of the disc it won't work. This game uses an older DRM called safedisc. There is a security flaw in this driver and it is no longer supported. That means nobody owns the code to fix the security hole. The driver was not
added to Windows 10. This doesn't mean you can't get the driver from somewhere else but I suggest getting a digital copy of the game that doesn't use safedisc such as Age of Empires II HD edition from steam.
