Windows 10: Cannot update end of service version

I'm running version 1803. Since its service has ended I get no security updates and cannot install most new softwares.

If I go to Backup and Security and try to update, I get the error that my version is out of service.

If I download Windows10Upgrade from Microsoft's website, and press Upgrade, it does nothing then notifies me my OS is up to date.

How do I fix this?

Do I need to update to an older version first?

Can I purchase a new license and re-install windows?

Support for the service pack-free version of Vista ended

From the MS Website ...

Support is ending for some versions of Windows

•Support for Windows Vista without any service packs will end on April 13, 2010.

•Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13, 2010.*

If you're running one of these versions after support ends, you won't get security updates for Windows.

I'm not sure why Fud commented that "MS considers Vista SP2 the bare minimum for decent support", since it appears they will still be supporting Vista SP1

End of supplemental servicing for Windows 10 version 1511

Today’s post comes from John Wilcox, Principal Program Manager for Windows Servicing and Delivery, and provides clarity around supplemental servicing for Windows 10, version 1511 and how to move forward with Windows as a service.

Many customers have reported that supplemental servicing for Windows 10, version 1511 has been just what they needed to adopt Windows as a service and update to newer, supported versions of Windows 10. If you are still in the process of updating to a current version of Windows 10, mark April 10, 2018 on your calendar—that will be the last day for supplemental servicing for Windows 10, version 1511 and the last day for general servicing for Windows 10, version 1607.

Announced earlier this month, additional servicing for both Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 10, versions 1607 will be available starting in May 2018 for a duration of 6 months at no cost. As with the supplemental servicing offer for Windows 10, version 1511, this additional no-cost servicing for Windows 10, version 1607:

Includes Critical and Important security updates as defined by the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) security update severity rating system.

Is a continuance of the Windows 10 Cumulative Updates.

Is provided through all normal channels.

Is applicable only to devices and virtual machines running Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 10.

Does not require additional action from customers for eligible devices.

Volume License customers who need more than the additional six months of no-cost servicing beyond April 10, 2018 can alternatively secure 12 months of additional servicing (starting from April 10, 2018) with paid supplemental servicing and should contact their account team for more information.

Vista Automatic Updating Error

Resolution Suggestion:

# To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
