    Cannot update from 10586, v 1511, to 16299, v 1803

My laptop runs Win10, 10586 and when I boot up I have been getting the message to update.
No matter what I do like follow the instructions, use an iso file to update the update fails.

Loading, verification and installation seem o.k., but everytime it fails.

    The error code is 0x80004005.

    The Laptop is a Packard Bell Core3 SoloSU3500, 4GB Ram, 500GB HD, Graphics Radeon HD 4330 512MB.

    :)

    Hi Joel,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, I will be glad to assist you with this.

Just to clarify, were you unable to install the update even after going to settings and checking for updates?

If not, I would suggest you to try the steps below to install the update and check again:

    1. Press Windows key + I to open settings.

    2. Click "update and security"

    3. Click Windows update > Check for updates.

    4. Check if you see the option to install the update.

If the issue remains the same, I would suggest you to try installing the update using an installation media.

The official Windows 10 ISO file is pre-installed with Windows 10 home v.1511 10586 therefore, installing that will get the update installed automatically. Follow the steps given be Andre Da Costa on
How to download official Windows 10 ISO files.

Once you have created the installation media, log in to the computer and run the media. Choose the option to "keep all files" during the installation.

Once the installation is complete, type winver in the search box and open it. If the update was successfully installed, you will see Windows 10 home v.1511 10586.

    Hope this helps.

Let us know if you need further assistance, we will be glad to help.

  4. Cannot update from 10586, v 1511, to 16299, v 1803

    Upgrade to Windows 10 1511, v.10586

    Hi,

My PC used to run Windows 7. I took the free upgrade to Windows 10. Now update keeps downloading and installing Windows 10 1511, V.10586, which fails.

I am running Windows Defender as my protection and have uninstalled other anti-virus. Is it possible that Defender is stopping the install.

If so, how do I turn off Defender so it doesn't turn back on until the install is finished?
