Windows 10: Cannot upgrade from 1803

Hi Everyone,

I'm profoundly annoyed by anything related to upgrading. I wish I could just use my computer and not be constantly worried by the OS sniffing in the background. That's why I used Sledgehammer on my laptop as soon as I fired it the first time.

Now I'm stuck because

• some apps from Adobe's Creative Cloud (I'm a professional graphic designer) will not install on a Windows older than 1809
• my Windows refuses to upgrade, giving me an error message (see attached PNG)

Prior to that, I've tried upgrading using WUMT, to no avail. I've then uninstalled the Sledgehammer scripts so as to use Windows original update mechanism, but I get the error above.

What can I do to install a newer version of Windows (at this point I don't care which, though the lastest would be fine so I get into this same trouble as late as possible)?

There are certain laptop models and computer components that are not fully compatible with the latest Windows version (Windows 1803). Our developers are aware of this and may release an update to address the issue as soon as possible. With that said, we do
not suggest to force upgrade a device that has compatibility issues. Please answer the following so we can check for options on how we can help you with your concern:

1. What is the make and model of your PC?
2. How did you upgrade your computer to Windows 1803?
3. Did you get any error messages?
4. Do you have a 3rd party antivirus installed on your PC?

Normally, if your PC meets the requirements for the upgrade, it will be offered to you. If your PC doesn't have an incompatible hardware, then we can proceed with troubleshooting steps.

Upgrade to 1803, recovery to 1709. Cannot return to 1803.

When I received the upgrade to 1803, everything seemed fine for a couple of days but then I needed to scan a document and found that I could not communicate with my Epson printer/scanner. To cut a very long story short, I eventually found that turning my VPN (CyberGhost) off allowed access to the printer/scanner.
I decided to return to 1709 and that seemed to fix the problem, until the next reboot. So now I can't print or scan with the VPN active. Furthermore, Windows Update tells me my PC is up to date so I can't get back to 1803.
Neither Epson nor CyberGhost have any ideas, even though they have both been very helpful in running tests.
So here I am, asking if anyone here can suggest either, why the VPN is blocking the printer (even though the printer ip is in the VPN exceptions list) and/or why Windows Update will not restore 1803.
