Windows 10: Cannot use "previous version" to restore a folder

Hi !


My thunderbird app just updated and deleted a custom file I put in its AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder.

So I went to the "previous version" tab in the properties of the parent folder.

From there, I can see multiple previous version of said folder which seems ok

However I'm facing various issues to recover my file

1 I cannot browse any previous version except the last one which might be the current one ?. Meaning : the "open" button is grayed out

2 I cannot select "restore to" on any version. It's greyed out

3 I tried to restore the whole folder anyway and it just failed thunderbird is of course not running at this time. A dialog opens telling me that there was some issue and that a log file was created. When I open said file, it says something like translated from french so maybe not exactly the same wording as in english :

While restoring to the original location, the process could not process the file c:\xxxx\xxxx\xxxx.

Lors de la restauration à l'emplacement d'origine, le processus n'a pas traité le fichier C:\xxxx\xxxx\xxxx.


The file this is talking about is the whole folder I'm trying to restore so in other word : nothing happened.

How to restore a text document to its previous form?

Have you tried saving a new document not following the same steps you did prior to this concern? If so, did you experience the same issue?

In the meantime, kindly follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the text document.
• Choose Restore previous versions.
• Go to Previous Versions tab.
• Look for the previous version of the document.
• Choose Open or Restore.
• Click on Apply.

The steps will allow you to browse all previous versions of the document.

Can't rename folder.
