Canon EOS 70D Camera fails to work

I have struggled through three separate support sessions with MS techs only to eventually mysteriously get disconnected when the answer isn't obvious or the tech in question clearly doesn't understand what they are doing.

(Honestly, I'm not being harsh - the MS tech went to a random 3rd party website - something like driverscape.com and proceeded to download and try and install an arbitrary -probably malware- .exe which I stopped him doing of course!)

Anyway... I had Windows 8.1 installed on my PC and after a messy upgrade to Windows 10, I decided to bite the bullet today and install a brand new installation of Pro N v1511.

The installation went fine and my device manager has no warnings or errors (which is always nice to see) and other than the display drivers (NVidia) which installed automatically and forced a reboot, the only other thing I have plugged into my PC (ignoring
standard devices like keyboard and mouse) is my Canon EOS 70D camera.

This was a device that didn't work after the Windows 10 upgrade, so I thought a fresh install would help.

    Other things that I've tried:

    • It shows in Device manager with e warning triangle and "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
    • Camera plugged into a Windows 10 PC at work and without any downloading of drivers, the camera works and shows up in Windows Explorer.
    • Tried all of the USB slots on my PC, no luck there and other USB devices work fine.
    • Tried updating my motherboards driver's for the USB, no difference there
    • Canon's website states there's no need for drivers (see for yourself)
    • I've tried restarting windows in "unsigned driver mode" no difference there.
    • I've installed the only utility Canon have (EOS Utility) which installs fine but fails to detect the camera, of course.
    • The memory card on the camera can be read with a cheap USB memory card reader.
    • All of the built-in troubleshooting leads me nowhere and Canon point me back to Microsoft. *bangs head off wall*

Canon EOS Family camera not recogonised in WIN10 64 Bits Ver 1803

Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.
