    My suggestion to you is buy a laser printer. Inkjets are money pits.

    Good printer that is cheap

    I strongly suggest buying an inkjet with separate ink cartridges for each color. They are more expensive, but much better solution that these ridiculous inkjets with two cartridges (black + 3-in-1 multi color). A good inkjet printer should have 4 or 5 separate cartridges that you can replace individually and for which there is a good supply of replacement cartridges on the market. Contrary to the popular opinion, good replacement cartridges will not damage your printer, they will offer very good printing quality and they are at the very least 50% cheaper that the originals (eg. Orink cartridges are quite good). I can name a few such good printers, but their price is certainly above 40$: Canon Pixma iP 7250, Cannon Pixma MP 5750, Canon Pixma MP 6850...

    Thank you, gentlemen!

    After reinstalling the printer driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode, I tried my old go-to solution -- restart the computer. At least from the laptop I can now print to the Canon printer. In the Devices and Properties window, it shows as "Inkjet Printer," but in the Print Dialog box it correctly shows as Canon IP6220D.

    Your suggestions were very useful and very much appreciated.
