@socklosk I tried that, good news is that when I turn it on, I see "PRESS ESC FOR STARTUP MENU" under HP logo, I didn't see it before, sadly, pressing ESC does nothing. @Nus You're correct.

OK, then it's quite unlikely that the ESC key won't work, it's just a matter of hitting it at the right time, so persevere.

Try hitting it repeatedly like a madman from the moment you turn on, try holding it down, try hitting it at different times before Windows boots, etc.

I'd be surprised if you can't get it right at some point.

    Did you try?

Settings, Update and Security, Recovery, Under Advanced Startup click Restart Now, Click Troubleshoot, Click Advanced Options and then click UEFI Firmware settings then click Restart. Computer will restart and load into the BIOS

I guess you didn't read the post. I DO NOT have "UEFI Firmware settings" under advanced options :/

Yes I read your OP. I posted the steps and video to make sure you were following them exactly and not missing a step. Sorry, just trying to help.

When you said it gives an error when installing while windows is running do you mean the install from desktop option?
Did you try the "Reset your PC" option? Maybe you will get the settings back.

It sounds like your Windows 10 install is corrupted or your current BIOS does not fully support Windows 10 UEFI. You probably need to update your BIOS but you said you did not want to do that yourself.

The easiest and quickest option is If you have access to a desktop you could put your laptop drive in there and format the drive and start over with Windows 8.1 or whatever OS you want. When you install your drive back into your laptop and turn it on it will boot into the BIOS since there is no OS. Change BIOS to legacy, set the boot drive to the drive you have your windows iso on (USB or CD/DVD) save changes and exit and continue from there.

    Hi,

Have a look at the HP Pavilion dv6 Maintenance and Service Guide

    On page 62&63:
    • There are step-by-step instructions including photos showing how to remove the service panel, disconnect and/or remove and replace the HDD. You need to only disconnect the hard drive (don't remove).
    • The instructions to remove the Service Panel are on page 60.
    • The step-by-step instructions plus photo of how to remove and/or replace are on page 64. You need only remove the battery for a minute or so to reset the BIOS. The battery is located adjacent to the hard drive and looks in a nice place for removal.

Take a look at the manual. Maybe have a peek under the Service Panel. Don't touch anything yet. Just have a look and see whether having the step-by-step instructions plus photos will give you the confidence to proceed. If you don't feel comfortable then that's okay too.

Let us know what you think *Smile

Tapping ESC like a madman didn't work. Holding down ESC made my pc beep. "Press esc for startup menu" had also dissapeared again. All I see is HP logo. Also, like I said in my previous posts, I dont want to remove the cell since 2 cords are blocking it.
EDIT: I reinstalled windows 10 via "Reset this PC" option, I still don't have "UEFI Firmware Settings" under Advanced Options.

god how I hate this unfinished windows. Can't access BIOS, can't play Battlefield games, gta V since there is no fixed mode support, windows hangs atleast 5 times a day andbooting is so slow thanks to black screen which lasts from a minute to 8 minutes. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself I shouldnt download windows 10

Famazed, you can go back to your previous OS if you want to. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...s-windows.html The operating system has nothing to do with changes to or entering BIOS. They are separate functions. This is a Family oriented site, so please use appropriate language.

I really feel for you Famazed. You must feel so frustrated and angry right now.

    I want to recap something
    Not really.

Please take another look at this earlier post
Forget the battery for a minute.
Do you think you can disconnect the cables from the HDD? Take another look and see what you think. On some motherboards I have worked on, if you disconnect a drive the BIOS will automatically search for a bootable disk on a drive. So if you remove the cables from the HDD you may be able to, for example, use a CD or USB Win10 prepared installation disk to gain access to UEFI via the Repair & Advanced Troubleshooting dialog. *Smile
