    Hello,

    For some reason, when I try to associate mp3 files with the 64bit edition of Windows Media Player (yes, I still use that) it makes explorer.exe hang and the change doesn't get applied.

    The method I use is right-clicking on a random mp3 file -> Properties and selecting "Change…" as shown below:

    …and then choosing wmplayer.exe in the Program Files/Windows Media Player folder. As soon as I hit OK, the Properties dialog box hangs and I'd have to end it using Task Manager.

    In the Settings app, you can only select the 32bit WMP.

    Anyone else experiences hangs of the Properties box when doing this? I'm using Windows 10 Pro x64 1909 with the latest updates.

    Thanks a lot for testing this out.

    So I just discovered something else; it's not just selecting the 64bit wmplayer.exe that makes it hang. Apparently selecting "Change..." in the Properties box then "Look for another app on this PC" and just clicking Cancel in the browsing box that appears also makes it hang for some reason.

    So the problem is not tied to WMP but it's an overall bug. I will change the OP accordingly.

    I'm still a little confused so I'll post what I "think" you're saying....

    • You can associate your mp3 files with the 32-bit Windows Media Player without issue.
    • You can not associate your mp3 files with the 64-bit Windows Media Player.
    Is that correct?

    Anyway, I just tried associating my wave files with both the 32-bit WMP (Program Files x86) and the 64-bit WMP (Program Files) and both played without issue.

    Plug your player into the PC via USB, making sure it installs necessary drivers, then simply copy and paste them over to your 'Music' folder.
