Windows 10: Can't boot from usb dvd

Create a flash drive and try that. Also try booting the DVD on a different computer to make sure it works.

I created a new USB Flash Drive and tested it on my main PC and it works fine. But On my Lenovo laptop it doesn't. Somehow Lenovo is not letting me do a clean install . I follow both tutorial to the letter.

 

Thanks, I was able to create a good working flash drive from the first option and I tested on my main pc. So, I have a working USB Flash Drive / CD/DVD working as well....but still I'm not able to boot from them on my laptop.

 

@ AndreyT, Yes on my main PC I get those words. But on my Laptop I DON'T *Sad,. So, I don't really know were else to click on my Bios for that I could boot from it.

 

Disable secure boot in BIOS. Also try changing the hard disk from AHCI to IDE mode.

 

@Spapakos !! I will try changing to IDE..I have disable all sucre options and UEfi.

If there's a choice in the BIOS, choose USB-HDD not USB-CD.

 

Good point, I've had to do that if my thumb drive was not tagged as removable media. I had a couple of Sandisk thumb drives the PC treated as USB hard drives. I think I also had to go into the hard drive section of the BIOS and shift the order to boot from them. Really had me scratching my head for a while.

My wife's Acer is very finicky as to how the thumb drive is created. I made several attempts before it even showed up in the BIOS boot menu at all. What eventually worked for me was using diskpart, option 2 here, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...e-windows.html It would not even see it at all if it was formatted in NTFS. Rufus was a wash out too. I eventually went old school with diskpart. I never tried an optical disk on that laptop, or any of my laptops for that matter. I do all my installs from thumb drives these days. Faster and easier IMHO. I haven't burned a CD/DVD in ages. My ASUS laptop on the other hand is easy peasy. It will install in UEFI mode even if the thumb drive is formatted in NTFS.

 

Is there a memory card reader in there, heard it can make a mess of boot options ?

Q?? But this is for win 7 and win 8 or 8.1.1? I don't have any ISO or DVD from previous windows..I'm all in with window 10.Pro.

 

Do you mean with a card in it? Neither one of my laptops will boot from my card reader. I really wish they would, but they are MIA from the boot menu, even with a bootable SD card in the slot. Still a good point, I'd remove any cards from them just to rule it out.

 

YES!! I have a cardreader, but Windows 10 did not find a driver for it. I have not bother with it till now, cause I will be installing a clean Win10pro. Hopefully.

 

It doesn't matter if there is a driver or not, not from the BIOS point of view. The OS (Windows) isn't loaded at that point. Boot support would be baked into the BIOS, or not.
