Can't connect to Internet but Kaspersky Virus DB can?

Running Windows 10 on an HP Multimedia Laptop.
I am on vacation in Mexico, Outlook and Edge/Firefox timeout (Laptop) when I try to search/update.

HOWEVER my Kaspersky virus dB update can access the Internet (on laptop) with no issues when I run it.

I had no problems at home, the only difference is I am trying to connect at the hotel in Mexico. I have tried connecting with both wireless and lan, changed both to trusted networks and rebooted. Same problem, shows a connection but Outlook and Browser timeout. Troubleshooter does not find anything wrong.

The network is fine, I am using my Android tablet and cell phone connected to the network to send this question. Is this some location/security setting in Windows 10? Thanks for any assistance!

    :)

  2. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue screen crash in Windows 10

I've used the tool but there is a large list of things I can remove and I'm not sure which. I've tried removing 3 which are

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Internet Security/Kaspersky Total Security 12.0.1.415

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Internet Security/Kaspersky Total Security 15.0.2.361

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Internet Security/Kaspersky Total Security 2016 365 1/4

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Internet Security/Kaspersky Total Security 2015

I was able to play a game without any crashes before doing this but now I get either the memory management crash or kernel security check failure.

How to effectively remove Malwares, adwares and viruses?

Thanks for your reply Robear. I upgraded my Win8.1 to Win10.

I had my Kaspersky Anti-Virus since last year. My Avast Internet Security was installed right after the problem started so as to assist my Kaspersky Anti-Virus, which was not enough to solve the problem. I also upgraded my Kaspersky Anti-Virus to a Win10-compatible
version when I checked the Kaspersky website and found out that there is a newer version to my existing Kaspersky Anti-Virus. However, both Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Avast Internet Security could not effectively address the problem. Hence, I uninstalled Google
Chrome and Avast Internet Security. Right now I'm using Microsoft Edge and Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

I suspect it's Kaspersky causing the problem. Try disabling it and using the built-in Windows Defender instead. See if that helps.

Maybe Kaspersky connects to a specific IP directly, while the browser has to resolve the web site to IP using the DNS server. If the network connection is not configured properly, it will not find a DNS server and fail to connect to a web site. You could try setting the DNS server manually, if you knew which one it is.

Press Win+X and click to open a Command prompt. Then give the command:

    ipconfig /all

Find the default gateway for your network connection and write it down. Right-click on the network icon and select Network and Sharing Center. Then click on Change adapter settings. Right-click on your LAN adapter and select Properties. Click on Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and click Properties. Then Click on Use this IP address and set the first three numbers the same as the gateway, set the last to a different number. Then set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 Then set the default gateway and the first DNS server to the IP of the gateway you wrote down.

For example, if the gateway is 192.168.1.1, then set your IP to 192.168.1.2 (anything from 2 to 254) and set the gateway and DNS to 192.168.1.1 This essentially tells the browser to ask the router for any web site it tries to resolve. Click OK to save changes and OK again to close the Properties window. Try to connect to the internet again. When back home, go to Properties again and set it to Obtain IP address automatically, same for DNS.

PS: If you know which is the ISP's DNS server, you could use that instead. For example OTENET in Greece has 195.170.1.1 although setting DNS to the IP of the router should work.

Unfortunately it looks like Kaspersky was a big part of the problem. I ended up uninstalling Kaspersky Total Security and just going with the simple Kaspersky virus protection. Thanks for the help!

I ended up finding and resetting the router (It is a small bed and breakfast). I was then able to access the internet. Still had problems with Outlook and Edge timing out. I noticed that Kaspersky was taking a long time connecting to a link when I ran a search on the browser. I uninstalled Kaspersky Total security and installed the smaller Kaspersky Virus. I was then able to use Edge and one account in Outlook. I had two accounts setup in Outlook 2010. When Outlook wasn't working, I setup the Mail in Windows 10. Both accounts are Hotmail accounts but I could only setup one through Hotmail and had to make the other account and Exchange account. Now in Outlook, the Exchange account is working but the Hotmail Account isn't. I am going to try switching the Hotmail account to Exchange and see if that works. Thanks for helping me out, it's nice to be able to reach out to forums like this for help. Thanks for your time!
