Windows 10: Can't connect to Internet

Is it pointless Now to create a restore point though since I ran the Quick Fix already?

Weird though. It's not like i always had this problem. Maybe related to a Windows update. Model # atheros/ar5b125 or x551m. I'm trying to look up drivers but I must be doing something wrong.

I can't find that device but I did find a x551MA.

On this page they have your wireless driver version 10.0.0.287. Now you have to tell it you have windows 8.1. Not the number I gave you from googling last night but a start and close.

Asus Drivers

Now I would shut Windows Driver updates before updating
Windows + R keys
Enter Sysdm.cpl
Click on Hardware tab
Click on Device Installation Settings
Click on No
A menu appears (first time) click Never Install driver software.
You may get a warning. Click the option that says I’ll take care of it (not exact words)

Check what driver you have today and then check again after you install so you know you changed it.

Okay.

Right click on Start. Left click on device manager. Expand the heading Network Adapters (click on little triangle beside the words.)

right click on the wireless adapter, left click on the word properties. Left click on the tab Driver. It is all listed.

When you click on link, scroll down and in OS box, click on Windows 8.1 64 bit, (you need to check if your system is 64 or 32 bit).

A list of categories appear. Expand wireless adapter. Carefully look for specific driver. Download, create restore point and install.

 

Can I just click on update driver after your second paragraph?

 

Sure you could just click update driver. I think what I was trying to do was to get you an older driver. In a number of cases people have found that the newer driver actually makes things worse. Additionally vendors have been known to to tweak drivers to customize them for their devices. While this works short term it is a bad approach in my opinion as they do not keep their drivers up to date. Then the manufactures of the adapters release new and issues follow.

So the goal was to get you the original driver your machine came with to see if that provided stability.

hi. sorry for the late reply. my mom needed to use a program on my computer, so we needed to fix the internet friend. we went to yelp and the guy installed a wireless network adapter card? we bought and also backed up and restored our computer. problem is now, yesterday my computer clock froze and today it's missing? but more importantly? when i try to go to my programs at the bottom, when i click on them i can't go to them. i have to access through task manager. then just recently, i couldn't even do taht because of a windows update and couldn't even end task. not sure if you maybe could help? thank you.

I would try creating another User on the computer, say an admin. See if the problems persist with this new user. If so I would start a new thread with the specific issues you are having.

If the new user is okay then you could copy your data over.
