That was exactly the point of my reply. We need Helpers, not Haters.

C'mon guys. There are many situations where Windows 10 may not fit the bill - e.g. for hardware or program incompatibility. In those cases the OP has to be advised accordingly. Only simple minded people would classifiy that as "haters".

Being able to locate his Music should be a simple issue, not a hardware or compatibility problem.

  6. This wasn't one of those situations. It was an obvious troll.

    Can't find my MP3 files

    Hi there

100% agree with you -- locating files isn't a problem of ANY OS -- IT'S USER PROBLEM !!!!! He's probably left them on a mobile phone / or in the Cloud.

Windows doesn't LOSE files -- although I would suggest that in File explorer the DELETE option shouldn't be right next to RENAME (right mouse click in File explorer) --if you have a laggy mouse or something similar you can easily click delete instead of rename -- and if nobody has ever done that then we've a whole lot of fibbers around. !!!

For some reason, MS defaults to delete to recycle bin without as much as a thank you! You can have a safety net by setting the confirm option in Recycle Bin properties.

For music I like to use Foobar2000, sound much better than most players and you have options in setting. And, I also use a search program call Everything

    Code: https://www.foobar2000.org/[/quote] Code: https://www.voidtools.com/[/quote]

Interesting your data reappeared. I've seen a number of instances where people lost their desktop content on upgrading, but not Music. It seems a weakness in the implementation which affects some, but not all.

Always keep your personal data as far as possible on a separate disk or partition - not on C: - you can relocate such folders. And use disk imaging and appropriate backups.

Setting a restore point before an update which is really a new Windows installation isn't meaningful. A restore point restores the registry amongst other things, but the old registry is in Windows.old, your new one in Windows- with data copied from the old one.

I also recommend Foobar2000. I used WinAmp for many years and can confirm it still works on W10, but it is far from the cutting-edge media player it once was. Foobar has many, many configurable options and is fantastic once you've learned the basics. Tek Syndicate posted a great tutorial for getting started with Foobar:

foobar2000: Getting Started and Theming - Tek Syndicate - YouTube

I also use dbPoweramp for ripping CDs to create bit-perfect copies. My collection has thousands of ripped CDs stored as FLAC files and 320K MP3s. All music is stored in personalized Music Directories with RAID configured HDDs as well as off-site mirroring (about 6 TB of carefully ripped with accurate metadata and artwork is not something I want to repeat).

I also recommend trying Fidelizer, a program which works in W10 to optimize your audio configuration.

But if you like WMP, then stick with it. W10 Pro has it in one of the Windows folders for Pro users (or it might just be for those who upgraded).

    Be well!

Concerning deleting files accidentally, within Win 7 for sure, I've noticed right after copying or moving, the target folder's new contents often are "blue-highlighted," and if I do not "remove" [click once anywhere in white space] the highlighting, the very next explorer.exe action will include those blue-highlighted files [and sometimes folders].
