  1. Can't fix "windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings"

    Hello,

I have a desktop which has been running windows 10 for years happily with its TP-Link Archer T9E Version 1.0 802.11ac network adapter.

Recently my OCZ revodrive C disk packed it in, so I had to to a fresh reinstall of Windows 10 Pro from my licensed USB stick.

Windows 10 Pro, Version 1803, OS build 17134.254

Since the reinstall, my network adapter cannot be stabilized. I have updated to the latest windows 10 driver. The result is internet that is extremely slow and intermittent, with the yellow triangle alert on my wifi indicator.

Troubleshooting yields "windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings"

I have tried uninstalling the driver and re-installing in safe mode. When this is done the adapter does not work at all.

I have tried uninstalling the driver and rolling back to 64 bit drivers for Windows 8.1, Windows 8, and Windows 7. Interestingly, this makes the internet work at full speed for a random, short time (less than 2 minutes), but it randomly fails, and eventually gets stuck in the proxy settings detection again.

Watching performance management in Task Manager, the internet failures SEEM to be tied to events of 100% disk usage for my Windows C drive, but I'm not exactly sure about that since it's hard to know exactly the moment the net dies.

I have read and worked with all the proposed solutions in this thread:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/windows-could-not-automatically-detect-this/d243dea1-d1c8-4c4a-ba96-2b49bc9bab1a

None of the solutions have worked for me.

Most people solved their issue by going back to a previous windows system restore point (which doesn't really address the root cause), but since this is a fresh install, there are no previous system restore points for me to access.

To reiterate, here is what has been checked/tried:

LAN settings - Automatically detect settings is ticked, Use a Proxy server is UNticked.

the below was done in an elevated command prompt:

    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ipv4 reset

    Disabled/enabled the wifi connection

    Run the troubleshooter

There is no malware on the system, this is a fresh install and I haven't been able to access enough of the internet to get any malware even if I wanted to.

I disabled Windows Firewall as part of the testing to see if we had a firewall conflict.

I also spent the better part of a day working with TP-Link support, who could not solve the problem and have told me they will get back to me, but it has been several days now. Either way, this seems to be more of a Windows problem than a TP-Link problem since I can get the adapter to work, but then Windows rejects it and can't detect proxy settings.

Besides that, all of this hardware has been proven. No hardware has been changed since my reinstall apart from the defective C drive.

Here is the output of my ipconfig /all

    I'm out of ideas.

Windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings

    Hi,

There are various reasons why you're getting such error message. Slow internet connections or network issues are possible causes of it. Kindly provide us the following details so we can isolate your concern:

    • How did you get this error message?
    • Are you connected to the internet using wireless or wired connection?
    • Have you tried other devices to check if the same issue occurred?

Since you have followed all the steps in the article provided above, let's check if your computer's Network proxy settings are configured correctly by following these steps:

    • Type Proxy in the search box on the taskbar, and then click on
      Network proxy settings.
    • Under Automatic Proxy setup, set Automatically detect settings bar to ON.
    • Under Manual Proxy settings, set Use a proxy server bar to OFF.
    • Click on Save.

Let us know if it works.

Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

I have the same issue and nothing helps me either. Did everything I could find online, to no avail. I don't have issues connecting to the Internet but my MagicJack can no longer connect.

When I use Network Troubleshooter all it says is "Troubleshooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issues found"

Under Problems it just says "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings" About as useless a message as anyone could expect and no suggestions on what else to do.

Given that I have tried everything under he sun I guess I am stuck with this?
