It's 14 gigs of wasted space on my SSD and I'd like it gone. It is not present in Disc Cleanup, and removing previous restore points does not change anything. There is no update pending, and

    takeown /F C:\$Windows.~BT* /R /A

    icacls C:\$Windows.~BT*.* /T /grant administrators:F

    rmdir /S /Q C:\$Windows.~BT\

does not grant me the access necessary to delete it. What on earth can I do to take control over this godforsaken machine?

  2. Disc cleanup

    • To delete temporary files:
      • Search for Disk cleanup
from the taskbar and select it from the list of results.
      • Under Files to delete,
select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
      • Select OK.
    • If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:
      • In Disk cleanup, select Clean up system files.
      • Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
      • Select OK.
    3. If those two ways cannot solve your problem, you can try to use third party software to

    wipe Windows 10 hard drive
    easily.

    disc cleanup

    Hi Edward,

You should run Disk Cleanup Twice as explained below to safely remove anything that can be removed and check everything in the list, it is quite safe to do that, disk Cleanup will not suggest anything that is not safe to remove . . .

    Open File Explorer

    Click on your hard drive

On the Manage Tab, click Cleanup

Let Disk Cleanup do its initial scan

Select Everything in the list and choose Delete

    Start Disk Cleanup again

Let Disk Cleanup do its initial scan

This time in the resulting dialog, click 'Cleanup System Files'

Let Disk Cleanup run another scan

Select Everything in the list and choose Delete
