  6. I've tried to find it, to no avail. Either it's impossible or very well hidden.

If you have a direct link, it'd be appreciated.

    Edit:

I managed to download the update manually but when I try to install it, I still get the same exact error.

Ok I got it to work. I followed these instructions:

press WindowsKey+R, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
Click "Computer Configuration", click "Administrative Templates", click "System", and then double-click the "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" setting.
Select "Enabled", click check box for "Contact Windows Update directly...." - apply and OK

Type CMD in Search. Right click on it to run as an administrator. (You can also right-click on the start button and select "Command Prompt (Admin)")
Type the following 5 commands at the CMD prompt:

    >WSReset.exe
    >dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    >dism /online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
    >sfc /scannow
    >powershell
    >Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Close the CMD window.
Check to see if the issue is resolved. If not, restart the PC.

I ran the downloaded offline installer for KB3081448, success!!

I can't even type anything in the command prompt after typing WSReset.exe. Could you walk me through the process like I'm an idiot. Do I type the entire thing into the cmd at the same time, or do I type each command separately? If so, how?

So WSReset.exe is the first command, it will reset the windows app store and actually launch the store on your PC.
Close the Store screen and then return to the cmd screen and just press Ctrl-C to get the prompt back.

Then enter each command from there on on it's own line and Enter then wait for each command to complete before continuing.
    Hope this helps

  10. Thanks for taking the time to help.

I'm still not getting it, though. I type in WSReset.exe, then ctrl+c to get the prompt back, then when I type "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" it just gives me this text:

"Deployment Image Servicing and Management toolVersion: 10.0.10240.16384

    Image Version: 10.0.10240.16384"

and then no matter what I do, I can't get the prompt back.

You will just have to wait a while - took about 40 minutes on my i7 laptop, a progress indicator appears after a while, [20%]...
Each command will take some time to complete

  12. Yeah, that didn't do the trick either.

Thanks for taking the time, though.

    Can't install update KB3081448, get error 0x80242006

Ok, I left out a step: the DISM command requires that a source for Windows 10 be available to make repairs. I forgot that I made these changes before I ran the initial set of instructions.
Try this first, then run the other steps:

press WindowsKey+R, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
Click "Computer Configuration", click "Administrative Templates", click "System", and then double-click the "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" setting.
Select "Enabled", click check box for "Contact Windows Update directly...." - apply and OK

  14. It says "windows cannot find gpedit.msc", which, I'm guessing is because I have the home edition of Windows 10. Am I right in saying that home editions don't have gpedit?

I suspect you are right, search for (windows-key+Q) "edit policy"
