Windows 10: Can't login

Reading the title sounds like I could simply reset my password to fix the problem, but the computer actually recognises that the password is correct and still won't log in. If I type in the wrong password, I get told the password is wrong; if I type in the correct password, the screen goes black for less than one second before instantly flicking back to the screensaver that comes before the password box. This happened once earlier today and a simple reboot fixed the problem, but now it continues to happen regardless of rebooting. Tried Google of course, but all the results seem to be of windows falsely saying the password is incorrect, which isn't the problem here. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

To be clear, you can't login to your computer and get to the start menu, or you can't login to your MS account, or both?

That 'screensaver' screen is known as the Lock Screen. If you click the mouse it should clear and show you the Login Screen. Can you get back to a login screen after your failed attempt to log in?

Are you logging in with a local account or a Microsoft Account?

Sounds like you are logging in successfully and immediately being logged back out again. This may be because of a corrupt user profile, do you have any other accounts you could try? If so can you log into any of them?

If this is your only account we may need to try logging in in Safe Mode, or enable the built-in Administrator account so we can make another account for you to log in with to replace and/or repair your original account. With some more details we'll have a better idea to proceed.
