Can't mount ISO''s with Windows Explorer anymore.

Know you said you use Winrar, but 7-Zip also does everything Winrar does too, and maybe a few more features. Its also a free app, if you wanted to look at it...link below.

Try this, just to see if it makes any difference.

Find an iso file. Check it's valid - open it in Winrar e.g.
    Close winrar.

    1. Right click the iso file.
    2. Click Open With, and set Winrar as the default program to open the iso.
    3. Now open the Control Panel, Default Programs, click Associate a File Type or Protocol.
    4. Wait for the list to populate.
    5. Rt click on .iso, and now set Explorer as the default
    6. You should see that now there is no .iso in the list of file types.
    7. Try mounting the iso by rt clicking on it.

If this doesn't work, try uninstalling any program that might mount an iso file.

Can't mount ISO''s with Windows Explorer anymore.

The point of this thread is Windows Explorer and issue of not being about to mount an ISO. If I wanted to download 7zip in place of WinRAR I would.

I know that. I'm just saying a lot of issues I ever had with Windows 10 was Microsoft's fault because of bugs that needed to be fixed. Having the ISO in whatever folder shouldn't matter as the drive is fine and not corrupted.

The only reason I like to use Windows Explorer to mount the ISO is because I don't have to worry about temporary data. With winrar and 7zip, the programs have to extract the data and then copy it to its destination. I only have 30GB left on my SSD and that poses a big problem when working with large file sizes. Also having the ability to mount the ISO virtually is good for old games that require the CD to be inserted in the drive to play.

Ok, was just a thought , on another note, I am running the exact same version of Windows you are, 1607 Build 14393.1198 and mine has no problems mounting ANY ISO no matter where its located. Using Explorer. Or Winrar, or 7-zip, so having those last 2 programs does not interfere with Explorer being able to mount ISO's at all.
Don't sound like a Windows 10 issue to me......sounds like something is messed up on your system. Maybe try doing a repair install, or Run Dism to check for errors, SFC .......unless you have already tried.

Otherwise do you have anything like Magic ISO or Power ISO installed- something that changes associations for ISOs? (Slim chance...)

Otherwise as I think I said, it's either an in-place upgrade repair install, or upgrade to the Creator's build.

Ok you could try running Dism to check for errors

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

If that does nothing, then a Repair Install might be your last choice, watch the video, read the tutorial This will NOT remove any personal files or programs.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

Only other thing maybe, have you changed any setting in your bios recently?? I see you have a custom built pc, so if you made any changes in your bios that might have affected your Windows. Just a long shot....

One thought- test whether mounting an iso works under a new user profile - create one for test purposes.

If so, it's very unlikely an in-place repair install or upgrade will help with this.

    Hi there
Actually the reason might be quite simple.

In your Virtual Machine configuration have you actually defined it as having ANY CD / DVD devices -- simply add one - you can leave off the connect at power on.

Can't mount ISO''s with Windows Explorer anymore.

There's a simple answer to this:

If an Image File like an ISO, or VHD is not contiguous (i.e. in a single piece, not fragmented around the disk) it may not be able to be mounted.

If copied elsewhere there's a good chance it will be contiguous and mountable.
